I never really considered that myself. However, if someone wants to do so for fun or because they feel it is a more accurate representation, who am I to judge? Whatever floats your collective boats.

I think it's great that people create sonas that reflect how they feel on the inside. I mean, that's the point of fursonas isn't it  XD i do sometimes get confused and address people as the wrong gender by accident sometimes and then i get embarrassed  :$

Well, most of the time people seem to think I'm/Cheza is a male xP I'm fine with that tho and actually don't mind it, but I do tend to tell people that "She's actually a she" or "I'm actually female" in order to avoid confusing someone.

I -do- have 3 secondary fursonas that are males tho. I also have a male friend irl who's main fursona is female.
So in short, I see nothing wrong with it and if that's what someone wants to do, then just go for it.

I'd think that designating a gender on your profile might serve to avoid many gender-related confusions as to you or your sona's gender. Just a suggestion.

I know, but I don't want to do that for a variety of reasons. That'd be a discussion for some other topic tho.

^^^I had that issue with a couple of people,  I thought you were male, and subanimus was female!  :$ X3

Personally, Gender does not matter to me. I have male fursonas because I am male, and it avoids some of the...weirder... assumptions some people might make. but ultimately. I don't friggin care if Angder is Male, female, gay, straight. those things DO NOT define him, and I would they argue should not define anyone else's fursona either.

Having said that the EFFECTS of being male/female, can influence things, for example there is still sexism out there, and having a fursona reflect that is 100% fine.

Well... funny you asks because i actually have a sona of the opposite gender and the reason is none of the above :) my Fursona was inspired by a imaginary friend i had (and have) almost my entire life :)
her name is Mittie and she is a Arctic Fox Supercomputer... :P i have met so many friends here on TFF.. just to name a cobble. :) Teiko, Angder, Kalan, Zarconite and many more and they don't care at least i don't think they do :) it is great to chat with them and most of them thinks Mittie is cute so mission accomplished XD

My secondary fursona (the one I use on here, Lucy) is of the opposite gender. I made her to represent my prominent feminine side, at the time I made her I thought it was weird since I identify as male but someone pointed out to me that maybe since I like creating female characters more than male ones I just like to act out my feminine side and be in control of a female body (yeah that sounds weird but you get what I mean xD). My main 'sona is pretty feminine himself.

I think fursona's are just awesome things in general in that it doesn't matter what gender/sexuality you identify as or any of that, you can make them how you like them. Be that a perfect representation of yourself or something different that you enjoy acting as. You can be whoever you want to be :)

I sometimes have herm versions of my fursonas, but I don't have any full male character or sonas.
I love being a female and having a female character that is an extension of my personality.

I like to think my fursona has no gender, even though it presents quite feminine

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but either way I feel this topic is very... Uhmmm... Steeped in the binary? Gender is a spectrum, not really a one or the other thing and so there's not really an "opposite" gender. Things like that can be non-inclusive to nonbinary folks or really anyone that doesn't belong in the strictly male or female category. Moral of the story? Watch your language as you can exclude and other others by feeding into the binary.

No, it's not sarcasm. I have gender dysphoria for real. I would change my gender, if I had money for the surgery.
I mentally fell more like a woman.
