I think I'm a bit of a word-nerd. I love learning new words/vocabulary, and a goal of mine is to be fluent in at least 4/5 other languages. I also like etymology and making connections when learning foreign language(like looking at how some words are related distantly to those in English/etc, or grammar changed in some way...).

I also love reading, though lately I've been reading more graphic novels than books :p

what languages do you already know?

(Besides English, of course) I'm partially fluent in German and a little French, and I'm also trying to learn Japanese and maybe Spanish sometime.

Oh, what's your first language? And your English on here ain't too bad.
Honestly I'm much better at reading and writing than speaking, too. I'd love to go to Germany/France/etc someday so I can practice among native speakers ^^'

I'm fluent in English and German, I know most Croatian but I still stumble over some words.


I know German better than Croatian because my parents think I will find German more useful out of the two, even though I'm from Croatia and they both speak it fluently.


I still sometimes learn from them on Skype, but we mostly just review.

[The Past]

I only know English. My family has Norwegian heritage (only in the last couple generations did we stop using very Scandinavian names ), but had dropped the language long ago, so I tried learning Norwegian on my own. That didn't turn out very well, and I barely remember what I learned.

I also learned a slight bit of German, thanks to a fellow forum member (and bear!), but he's been gone for a while.

My Croatian speaking is similar to a five year old's in that country, since I stopped learning when I was five when we moved the the US.


Before my dad remarried we used German in the household, but my parents would talk in Croatian.


My sister knows a lot more than I do but she doesn't really like to speak it. We mostly talk in German if we don't want our stepmom to hear something. I've been trying to teach my stepbro but he doesn't really have an aptitude for language like my mom and I do.
