"Oh. Ok. You were taught." He laughed again, knowing full well what she meant now. "Mental Conditioning, trained responses. things like that."
He settles down, nearly laying flat. "There are two ways of catching fish. the first, is the patient method." he stuck two arms in the water slowly, and kept them apart, but close enough to each other to close the distance fast. He remained motionless, then, as a fish swam close, he snatched it with both hands, and pulled it out of the water. he held it by the mouth. "See? this method also has less chance of scaring fish from the area, but takes a little longer and more practice to do successfully. Also, be careful of sharp finned fish, if you try to catch one like this, you're liable to get your hand grievously cut."
He put his other arms in the water again, then speared a fish with several claws at once, pulling it up as it bled out. "This, similar to what you tried earlier, works, but scares the fish with the scent of blood. Always impale with multiple claws. You were lucky, often times the fish can get away from a single impalement, only to bleed to death and die away from where you can retrieve it, thus, scaring even more fish from the area temporarily and robbing you of the fish you worked for. It typically doesn't work so well for larger fish though."
He shrugged, saying, "Well, that's the basics. most of the rest you probably won't need anyway." He offers her one of the two fish he just caught.
