Too many wolf furries?
« on: October 04, 2015, 04:40:02 AM »
I want to get your opinion on something. Do you think the furry Fandom is flooded with wolves, foxes, huskies, ect.?

Your fursona is meant to recognize YOU and YOU are the only one who can decide what animal fits your personality, lifestyle, or traits. I get that wolves have a variety of personalities. There's the aggressive side, maternal, loyal, faithful, fearsome, and introverted. But so many other animals have the traits. Would it kill anyone, especially newer members of the fandom, to choose a different animal, or at least have a wider variety of characters they use?

Your fursona doesn't have to be your spirit animal, totem, or power animal. It's just representing who you are. My spirit animal is a white-tailed deer and yet my fursona is a dingo, because deer is my RL  personality, and the dingo is my online personality.

The animal kingdom is so large and diverse. So are people. Humans can be so different visually and have completely different mindsets from one another, yet we all have the same core DNA.

Does anyone give two furs about African wild dogs, jackals, or coyotes? Dingoes, which are like, Australian wolves (just kidding, here)? What about domestic breeds, apart from Spitz or 'wolflike' dogs?

I feel like pop culture is trying to glamorize wolves, even though NAG wolves are no longer endangered or a primary concern. Yes, wolves are interesting, captivating, and powerful animals. They mean so much in many cultures' lore and mythlogy. But there are other animals that need our attention, though they may not be as majestic as 'wolfs' but there are just as important. Orange orangutans, tigers, servals, bears, snakes, fish, orcas, leopards, cheetahs, dingoes, kangaroo, horses, Peregrine falcons... they all have a story and a world that needs to be exposed.

So why just wolves?

I find it odd as well.
I have had my fursona to be a Husky even b4 I knew what they were.
But I am thinking that I need a second fursona to display my social side... But isn't that inherint w both humans and dogs?
I truly have only even identified w huskies and humans. And anthro of both is precisely what I am.

This is like asking "Why just <x race> in <x country>?"

It's nothing to worry about.

If your sona represents you, then you don't need any others to do so. He's just you, so any quirks, traits, sides to you are reflected in him. I consider alt characters to be for when it's not you.

Im a wolf elf

But I choose wolf as my main sona because theyre a beautiful animal, majestic and powerful. Well that and it was part of his story. But they're an animal that roams free, they live life their way and nobody elses.

I have 12 other sonas as well

Dragon
Roo
Siberian tiger
An anthro wolf, yes I know
Jackal
Sergal in the works
Fox, hush
Cow
Horse
Otter
An aakor
Deer
Badger

Kalan is my main cause he was my first and the one I fell in love with the most

That's true. It is what it is. Can't be helped.

I really wanted to express this though. I'm big on wildlife protection and awareness so this is the kind of thing I like to ask about.

If your fursona is a wolf and if anyone gives you cap about it, then that's their own problem. No reason to change anything for just one person, if you're happy.

Well it is true but it's your opinion in making a secondary. But it would be nice to not have so many canines some animals or creature aren't used at all in the fandom... And what bugs me is some may just pick a Fursona with no reason but to just have a Fursona (especially stole some pictures of furries they found on the web to call it theirs) ... I knew a few who did that and then had no clue what the fandom was... Anyways a wolf, husky, fox, ect matches you then go ahead.

I think for some, having multiple fursonas is cool, typically when their main is a wolf.
But for me, I have just one. Mainly because that is what describes me.
I am currently working on my fursonas design on a ref sheet, and I am happy w it.
I think at some point I might make other fursonas, but simply for the purpose of rping.
I would gladly be seen as my fursona, because the only difference between me an my fursona is I am human and he, if you put it that way, is not.
And when I can b my fursona, I guess I'm a bit less self conscious.

I agree with george, but must say, its THEIR CHOICE for what fits their personality..and also what they find appealing to base a fursona on, nobody should judge others for how popular their fursona is
Thoughts are like arrows: once released, they strike their mark, guard them well or one day you may be your own victim.
