I think it causes more problems than it solves, if it was kept as a sense of dealing with mortality only, it would be fine. When it's a control mechanism, that's when it makes me angry.
I've watched the concept destroy my mother for years, rationalizing all misfortune of the economy as part of some greater scheme to lead her down a better path. That view changes every time life suddenly seems to be better, but then changes again when life is bad. I don't know how someone can look at their concept of religion and not see how many times people have said the world was going to end based upon natural disasters, and yet here we are yet again. She extends further to even say that "God should be trusted" what does that even mean, no statement is ever made it is simply seen from a sudden turn of seemingly good fortune to be God. God might as well be any casino based upon that logic. I like the idea of something looking out for us, but not like this.
