There is not a single game that is as long as the Gen II games, nor as interesting with all the canonical events.

Personally, I prefer Pokemon up to gen 4, but there's nothing wrong with the latest two. I loved the first and second gen show when I was a little kid, and only played a relative's Silver Version a couple times before getting my own Sapphire version. Since then, I have collected at least one main version of every gen, plus one of each gen "remake" (FireRed, etc.).

I'm not a huge fan of Gen 5 because it seems to me it was put out due to lack of something new and "cooler" coming out. I'm not sure I like the remake of Sapphire either. I mean, it's cool, but because I played Sapphire when I was younger, I have no drive to play the remake; I never play the same game twice once I've beaten it.

Gen 2 is my favorite, and it will always be my favorite... Why? Cuz that game was way ahead for its time, it was a huge improvement on gen 1 its broken gameplay, and it had a working day and night function, which gen 3 lacked. Yes it is true that gen 2 also had battery issues, but for my knowledge that only occurred with the North American releases, unlike the PAL versions in which the battery survived longer than 6 years :3
