On their home planet/world/whereverthehecktheyarefrom, woofs are omnivorous, but they tend to stick to mostly eating tree sap and fruits.
It's kinda weird really. Even woofs who have never been where all the other woofs are seem to be attracted to sweet and/or caffeinated liquids.
So I'm assuming it's safe to assume the tree sap is sweet and rich in caffeine and nutrients. And probably kinda addictive too.
As once fall rolls around, woofs grow increasingly aggressive due to the lack of sap, and as a result small animals and insects start falling prey to hungry woofs.
Then there's also a mass-migration to areas where it's possible to find sap.
Woofs who for some reason or another can't do that eventually start showing signs of withdrawal, like drowsiness and lack of interest in anything, followed by a strong desire to hibernate.

Also, I love the smell of freshly-cut grass.
I confess that I am a horrible creature who delight in the suffering of innocent grass.
