The shock weapons has no effect on sain because he is a blood mage  with lightning attribute sain fires a blood feather at the attacker

The blood feather splats and glides off the friction-less armor. The Assault Vet turns his attention to Sain, and fires a salvo of 8, 40x53mm grenades from two shoulder-mounted rocket pods.

with his jump pack, Gabag picked up Sain and moved him out of the way of the rockets. Setting him down, he jumped again straight at the purge trooper, chainsword revved and ready to go.

Soon enough he landed with a satisfying crunch on his enemy, knocking it down, he then arced his chainblade towards the head of the trooper.
