Yeah, they basically just sped up a process that already happened long before.

Well, this is not something that can be "sped up."

The relationship man has had with dogs formed over thousands of years.  And dogs still retain many natural instincts.  Foxes are very much wild, and are read different than dogs.  When a dog is agitated, it's pretty easy to read.  A fox might not give any warning at all.  A lot of caution and consideration needs to be taken into account.  So it'll take quite some time before foxes can be considered "tame"

Do you know where it's legal to own them as pets?

In the US I have a pretty good idea, but I think they should be legal in Canada seeing as how there's a lot of rural environment to have a proper enclosure for them.

Yeah, I have a lot of room in the woods behind my house actually.

Foxes are cute but destructive little buggers, and it's not their fault but they can and WILL get into things.  And they LOVE to dig, so if you love your floors... you'll run them outside so they can fulfill their love for digging.

If I did get one I's probably keep him outside since my cats are extremly sensitive.

A fox would probably be more comfortable outside, but another thing you can do is make a specific room for the fox.  A... "fox room" as an alternative for an outdoor enclosure, or something to have in the meantime for building one.

Of course all of this is hypothetical 'cause my parents would never let me get another pet let alone a fox.

Hehe, it'd be very easy to convince your parents to get a fox.  Just tell them to look at them!
