Needs more Quickbeam!

So hasty...

The Soldier Son trilogy by Robin Hobb has some cool sentient trees in it.
She's a great author.

Sentient plants are a rather interesting concept...

Imagine what they'd do to vegans...

(That's not some silly joke or anything. I'm serious... What would they eat!?)

Apparently plants already do know when they're being eaten and some even try to fight back.
According to some thing I read the other day.

I've also found this one plant that curls up its leaves if you touch it to be interesting.
Since it reacts to touch, wouldn't that mean it's able to feel something?
Same kinda goes for that other plant that has seed pods that pretty much splode if you touch them.

I don't really care tho, veggies are delicious.

Well, plant's have no nervous system, soo I think it's pretty safe to assume they won't be feeling pain, or despair, or, well... Anything, when you're eating them...

But yeah, some of them have evolved with some defenses against herbivores and stuff...

And some of the buggers have become the ones who eat themselves...

^^Rather interesting docu overthere... Plus, awesome old guy's narrator voice!

Plants are weird, and cephalopods have very basic nervous systems but are complex social creatures.  Needing a complex CNS is just a human conceit it seems.

For me though, I eat bacon so I'm not gonna lose any sleep over carrots.

I kinda just don't get what's the point...

Why would plants have the capabilities to feel pain, and stuff like that, if they're immobile anyway?

Sped up by quite a bit, but it still doesn't look particularly immobile to me.

The whole organic life is about the consumption of other living beings and as far as I consider it; eating plants is just as same as eating animals. If we all started to become too sensitive about what not to eat in case we might "hurt" them, we might as well just lay down on the ground and wither away from starvation. Sometimes it's just better for some people not to overly think about stuff like this in my opinion and just eat whatever you want, or is at your hand's reach!

Life is pain, yes. It sucks and as much as we hate to see others hurt, it's just how the nature goes and we cannot deny that!

Anyhow, a sentient plant race like Florans from the game Starbound are rather intriquing and would love to see more intelligent plant creatures like them!  :)

Yeah, that's really beautifull, and all... But y'all do realise there's a diffirence between "alive", and "sentient" as in, capable of feeling pain?

Oh, and what Polaris says...

Y'all, also realise that if you don't eat the plants, then the plants will eat you? Especially funghi, and stuff like that?

Yeah, I don't particularly care. My species happen to be on top of the food chain in most places, so I suppose I might as well act the part.
I don't really like meat all that much, but it's more a taste/texture thing rather than a poor little animals thing.

As for plants feeling pain?
YES!! SUFFER!! ALL OF YOU!!! >:D

Well, you're a dog, not a wolf? I mean, don't take this the wrong way, but, you get fed...

Don't sweat it, I eat dinosaurs a few million years past due, I'm not even really a part of the food-chain...

As a sheep, I live off from eating grass and other plants on daily basis, so the sounds of them blades of grass screaming in my mouth when I chew them into a much is just music to my ears!  >:3

Hmmmm.... I could so go eat the flowers from your gardens and watch them panic as I devour their kind in front of them...  >:3
