If you spend time pursuing to hurt someone it shows to them that they are important to you, that what they have done has a real impact and that they are better than you cause they had the capacity to destroy you.

But if you succeed, do better then them at everything they can do and when their name comes up you just go "Who? Oh yeah that guy, forgot about him", that shows they are nothing compared to you.
