Bird Furries seem unnoticed.
« on: November 07, 2015, 04:44:51 AM »
I'm a bird fur myself, and I've noticed a lack of respect or notice from mammal furs. It seems that we are ignored as we do not fit "FURry". Someone once said;

"Bird furs are stupid. They go against the laws of FURries. They aren't furs and should leave this chat."

That was his exact words. I'm offended.
Some Furries are specists and rude. One of the reasons I joined was because people said it was an excepting fandom. Oh well, life ain't purfect.

To be fair, that's only some, not all.

If you're not a "typical" species, people find you odd, strange, etc, yet if you're a typical species, people will complain that you're not original enough. There's no real winning.

This is what I get all the time for being a Dewott, some people find it stupid, some find it weird, others find it unoriginal, some people love it. I once had someone say I was a pedophile because I was based off of a "children's show."

I wouldn't say the fandom is "accepting", just that there are many accepting people in it. To be fair, all fandoms have their issues, look at how people from like, Steven Universe tried to get that one person to kill themselves.

The best way to look at it is that there are at least some people that absolutely love Avians. Personally, I do, and there aren't enough of them out there from what I've seen.

Avians are unnoticed indeed. But most people won't flock to birds because that's one of the last few animals some would think about sometimes. (Pun unintentional)

Besides, if it helps, before I officially selected Armonia the deer fox as my main sona, my first sona was a white, navy and gold Pygmy falcon by the name of Decibel. She was mute and always wore those way over rated fursuit goggles. I really liked her but I couldn't find a use for her. I should draw her in my improved style.

And, I like the uniqueness of your fursona choice. A mockingjay is definitely considered original by me.

People just have trouble accepting that one day the Avians will take over and rule supreme

Also I've never had trouble with anyone as you show in your quote. I feel it would also be going against any of the scalies.

I think avians are awesome, they just don't fit me personally.

There are so many bird species it's hard to think that canines reign supreme in the furry world, there aren't nearly as many 'created' dog breeds as naturally evolved birds in the animal kingdom.

I don't think they're unnoticed, just underrated. Humans have always been fascinated by flight, so it's strange that avians aren't common.

There are a lot of winged mammal hybrids and dragons, though. =/

Yeah but if species was proportional to amount of furs, there'd be a hell of a lot of insect furs xD

There's more species of animals than there are furries in general. We'd run out of people before we ran out of variety!

I love birds in general. They're interesting and fun to watch. And I've had a few anthro avian characters myself. My trouble, though, is getting the flying thing to make sense. I know, fantasy and all that, but if you want to make something realistic to a point, it doesn't quite work out.

Then you end up with these big, annoying wings that you have to wrestle into cars and planes and generally get really annoying...

I believe there are different minds on the matter of arms

Realistic where the wings are wings and feet are used like hands.

Toon where the wings are the arms and feathers form the fingers

Claw where the arms go into claws instead of wings and wings can come out the back

Hybrid of realistic and claw where the arms form wings, but have claws where the end of the wing folds back.

I personally opt for toon

My avian characters have typically been "claw", but often lacking wings. My excuse for it is that, within the universe of one of my stories, the anthropomorphs are actually their own collective of species spawned through genetic manipulation + MANY years of evolution, and the flying wing thing just didn't work out for the avian-related ones.

I love birds. I was very, very close to choosing one as my fursona to the point I considered a hybrid as a compromise.

A bird-deer would be interesting. If you still like the idea, I say go for it.

Maybe I'll add something into the mix. I love Crows and Owls. But Owl eyes would look strange on a deer! I'll figure something out...hmm...maybe I could go for a strange Deer/Owl hybrid...

I've seen "fur"ries of birds, reptiles, bugs, and sometimes amphibians, etc. I personally love birds, and if it were possible I'd love to grow wings myself, at least metaphorically ^^' My fursona has wing tattoos on her back to reflect that. I also used an owl themed username for various sites because I love them too. They're one of my favorite animals.

I guess in a way mammals are easier to relate to because we humans are mammals too...? Either way, just because you see less of a certain type of fursona doesn't necessarily make it unappreciated. Before you take other people's opinions into account, decide for yourself how you feel. If you want to have feathers, have feathers! It doesn't make one any less a part of the fandom. It's about anthropomorphic animals, not just ones with fur.

Also, I hope I don't sound like a buzzkill, but I don't think there is any group or fandom that is 100% perfect. There are jerks everywhere unfortunately. Surround yourself with people you care about and get along well with, and if you see a negative influence, then you have some options: report 'em, block 'em, or ignore 'em. Don't let them tell you what's right for you. Only you can do that.
