A poem I wrote a few years ago and thought I'd share it.
When the Young Pup Cries
No one noticed when the young pup cried
As she wondered down the road
Her hind leg lifted in the air
From a coursing pain she’d never known
She once had a loving mother and was
One in a litter of eight
Until she ventured on her own
To an adventurous but unknown fate
No one heard the young pup cry
As she wondered down the street
Muffled by the sound of passing cars
And the shoe to concrete beat
She would beg with pleading eyes
Sometimes for food, sometimes for water
Some people would be more than generous
And some too busy to bother
No one cared when the young pup cried
As she wondered through the rain
Her sadden moans showed much anguish
Than that from any physical pain
She finally fell onto her side
Her strength had long since passed
She cried one long sorrowful howl
Till finally someone heard at last
He knelt down by her side and
Stroked her damp wet fur
He picked her up and wondered
“Who could ever abandon her?”
Now someone cares when the young pup cries
Though it’s a sound he rarely knows
For she no longer needs to cry
This young pup now has a home
