Speaking as a sort of liaison between furries and non-furries, unfortunately furries are still seen as weird perverts <:\ People are like, "But look at all this weird porn!", and it's like... have you spent five seconds looking at hentai, comic fan art, even cartoon fan art... ? Outlandish fetishes are not furry exclusive, folks.

We must not forget, haters gunman hate.
What haters want is for you to reply the there comment of argue with them. If you fight back that will only give a worst image of the furrys. My evidenceof this is....well just look at the cringe videos of furrys fighting back at the haters. It dosent work. So as I said my advice is to just ignore them. I also find it useful to talk to other furries if a hater is hating just so you have someone to talk to.

From what I've seen, there are two main reactions to the furry fandom- "ew, they wanna have sex with animals," or "what the heck is that?"

I take every chance I get to give the people who've never heard of furries the true description of the fandom, before the stereotype reaches them. And I attempt to gently educate those who've only heard the negative stereotypes. If they don't wanna hear it, I don't force it- I just move on to people who understand (or don't speak about it to some people... but I have yet to lose a friend for being a furry).

Pretty much, but I don't care enough to explain it. If they don't like it, oh well. :3

Unfortunately most people don't understand us and as an result they disrespect us. Most people do not want to take the time to understand us and they make fun of us because they are ignorant to the idea of the furry fandom. In order for them to act smart they judge us harshly without any knowledge of what Anthropomorphic creatures are. Most of them most likely doesn't know what that word even means. If you call them out and attempt to correct them they usually will try to fight with you because they don't want to feel embarrassed because they don't know what they're criticizing.

People do not like to be wrong, so when someone talks bad about something they have no knowledge of and you call them out for it, they will feel embarrassed. So in order for them to not feel embarrassed about criticizing something they know nothing of, they fight. Unless you are completely sure they know what a furry is, I would not say anything.

Depends on how you say it. "I like to draw animal people" comes lighter than "I like to wear a fur suit".
When the term "Furry" is used people tend to think we are weirdos who sexualise "socially unacceptable" things. No matter what kind of furry you are though, there are definitely stranger followings. Either way people should respect how others live their lives. Its not their activities. Furries are very numerous too

Look, we're a fandom.  Everyone hates fandoms.  Fandoms are often seen as annoying.  But we're a special case.  Years ago, MSM reported on furries and showed the darker side of our fandom.  Ever since, we've been known for sexual deviancy.

In short, keep it hidden, unless if you're absolutely sure that they'll be okay about it.

EDIT:  minor changes.

This is probably everyones intial opinion^ I just explain more thoroughly what I personally mean by it. I dont think it is that odd to think it would be cool if the world was all anthropomorphic any more than it would be odd to wish hogwarts was real. Its mostly up to who you talk to, but in my opinion I wouldnt likely associate with anyone bothered by it
