He was about to stand up to try to tell Gauge off, until the leg swung through the air, hitting him hard on the side of his stomach. He felt a shooting pain coming from where he was kicked, as he flew through the air, landing on the hard ground. Groaning, he tried to catch his breath, as his lungs were almost emptied by the sudden assault. Trying to get up, he was picked up by Gauge by his t-shirt. And he got pulled up fast. Trying to reach the ground with his feet, he felt anger build up in him. Red. Hot. Anger. He almost couldn't hold it back. Don't do it! It'll only make things worse, he thought, trying to calm himself down. But it didn't work. His anger overcame him, as he gathered some spit in his mouth, shooting it out at Gauges face, hitting him around the eyes.

she sat there surprized but there was also fear. It wouldn't let her move. Watching what had been done to Marcus. Then anger flashed through her. She stood up slowly. She growled as her eyes flamed with a silver glow. No one will get in her way. Every person has a good heart? Lies! He'll pay. No one like him should be alive. She used her tail to grab his foot and pull him. Making him fall backwards. She shown her claws and went for a strike.Leaping towards him, jumping over ulvus. A sergal blood rage flowed through her. "i'll rip you apart!!" she exclaimed. She never thought to have this much rage inside her. She felt like a whole new person, like her only target was this wolf and her brain chanting 'kill, kill, kill'. Was this even her about to tackle this gang wolf?

"Wow. Ballsy. Ballsy little buddy." he gave him a friendly smile as his fist smashed into marcs face. He then felt something pull his leg. He hit the ground hard. But he recovered with adrenaline filling his veins. This was a sergal. This would not be easy....but what if..he grinned and scrambled to the exit and sprinted into the school hearing her close behind. She was really in a rage..and gaining. He hoped this worked. Or he'd be dead.

Kamren sat in silence for the rest of that homeroom period. He made eye contact with virtually no one else, but instead just fixated on his desk, his class schedule, and the whiteboard in front of him. He was twiddling his thumbs nervously, his tail fidgeting slightly where it lay underneath his seat. His wings were still positioned awkwardly against his chair, and frequent attempts to get them into a comfortable position were fruitless.

Overall, Kamren was deathly uncomfortable. He felt awkward after that whole ordeal. He was embarrassed that he'd drawn attention to himself. He was hurt by the things that the wolf had said. Those taunts were still ringing in the back of his mind, as much as he tried to keep them away. And each time they repeated themselves, the young dragon found himself wincing time and time again. Literally his first 10 minutes at this new school, and he'd already been chastised simply for being what he was. A dragon. A hybrid. Long before Kamren had moved here, he had known that this area of the country was less tolerant of different species as compared to his hometown, but he'd never realized how bad really was. Is this how the year was going to be? Kamren gulped a lump down his throat at this thought.

If that were the case, Kamren resigned then, that his best bet was to just keep to himself. Don't socialize. Don't draw attention. Especially around canines. Things were just different at this school. For one, this sort of conflict was deemed tolerable, perhaps even... okay? It definitely wasn't all right, given the standards Kamren was used to, but he supposed that's just how things were here. Maybe when I'm some big-shot lawyer or court justice, that can change.

Kamren was snapped back to reality by the sound of an entire class of students beginning to file out of the classroom. Was homeroom over already? Well, that had been a quick fifteen minutes, and it had seemed like virtually nothing happened besides the fight - and the cheery morning announcements. Checking his class schedule, it looked like Kamren's next class was... English. With the same teacher? That might be a good thing, though; perhaps Kamren would actually have the opportunity to strike up a conversation with her later, and address what had happened. How he was feeling. Would she care, though? She's a wolf, just like so many others at school.

"So do I just stay here, if it's the same teacher, or...? Kamren mumbled to himself. Then his question was answered by "1st Block English will be in the Library" written on the whiteboard. The Library. Okay. He knew where that was.

By this time, Kamren was one of the last still in his seat, while the classroom was quickly emptying out. A slight panicked embarrassment filled him and he quickly shuffled his papers and notebook back into his backpack, hurriedly slung it over his shoulder - wings getting in the way like always - and headed toward the classroom door.

He was expecting to be the last out the door - which he was, but as soon as he exited and turned the threshold the dragon's gaze met that of a familiar gray fox standing just outside. Kamren stopped, almost a little startled.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't see you there..." he muttered, scratching his head.

The gray fox was tall, lean, dressed a little preppy and wore glasses. Kamren had recognized him as one of those that had come over to involve himself briefly in the altercation from earlier, but he hadn't had the chance to introduce himself. The fox had seemed level-headed, though Kamren couldn't be absolutely sure. He was a canine, after all. Kamren was just about to apologize for nearly bumping into the boy, excuse himself and be on his way to the library, until a thought struck him and he just blurted out.

"Uhh, were you... Were you waiting for me...?"

Well, damn.  Teach had broken it up.  It had really looked like, for a nice few moments, that she was gonna do absolutely nothing.  Well, she was definitely far from perfect, Ave would say that on any day.  Still, a wolf could dream, couldn’t he?

Ave watched Gauge with curiosity.  Maybe he’d misjudged the guy from earlier?  Their packs weren’t presently fighting, at the least, Ave could let him know that what he’d done had been real cool.

And then, the panda stepped into view.  She was short, furred, giggly, and probably dumb like the rest of her race.  And why the hell was she talking to Gauge, anyway?

And why was HE talking to her?  See, now, Ave could remember just what he hated about Gauge.  He was a gutless, soft, non-canine loving prick.  Of the things wrong with non-canines, Gauge embodied the worst of it.

Scoffing angrily, Ave picked himself up from his desk, moving out into the hallway.  Along the way, he high-fived and dapped friends and pack-mates.  Canines who weren’t losers like Gauge.  Canines who did the species good.

Unexpectedly, Ave suddenly found himself walking towards his brother.  He waved, and his brother waved back.  Knowing that he had time before his next class – math, fantastic – he caught up with him to walk with him.

And what if his brother's day wasn’t going well?
“So, how’s it going, bro?” he asked, looking down at his brother, smiling.

Incredibly surprisingly, his brother was not immediately happy but instead sighed, before looking back up at Ave.  His eyes were unsure, his face looked unsteady.  Shit, what was wrong?

“I talked to some Sophomores in my homeroom.  They said you’re, well, bad things, but they, uh, they basically said you’re a bully.”

. . . Ave had to admit, he’d never quite considered this.  His worlds – home and school – weren’t really separate.  His parents preached what Ave followed, they knew their kids were part of extended packs outside of their own families, they didn’t care.  And Cryst . . . well, Cryst was the outsider.  He didn’t follow what their parents said about other species.  He was the weird one.

But even knowing that this was to be Cryst’s first year in high school with him, Ave hadn’t really considered at all that his younger brother would finds his species attitudes unpleasant.  Maybe even judge him.

Well, Ave didn’t care if he judged him.  Did he?

Didn’t he?  What he felt for Cryst was more than for anybody else he knew . . .
“Well, Cryst, you, you, you know how it is.  Other species aren’t as good as us.  I just let them know that.  And, and, I know you feel differently, but, well . . .” his voice trailed off as his younger brother looked at him, expecting, and then his face darkened.

        He WAS judging him.

Ave immediately felt anger burst up inside him.  Cryst couldn’t judge him.  That wasn’t right, or fair.

Cryst began to speak.  “Look, man, I don’t-”

Ave cut him off.  “I'm not gonna talk about this, Cryst.  I gotta go to class.  Bye, man.”

Casting his face away from Cryst, Ave turned into the classroom next to him, which was actually where his next class was math.

        That look on Cryst’s face . . .
Ave took it out of his mind and instead focused his attention to the right, next to him.  There sat a fox, blonde, splashed with orange, attractive.  He wasn’t sure whether or not he’d seen her around here before . . . maybe not?  In spite of himself, Ave grinned.  He’d picked the right seat.

As the teacher, a fairly bored looking Newfoundland began to drone on about the class and how it would be this semester, Ave turned to her.

“Hey,” he started, “what’s up, girl?”

As she she made her way to the choir room she thought about Gauge. She knew he hadn't really been that bad. He had saved her from falling off the school roof and the way he picked her up. She giggled softly to herself and made her way to the choir room. The classroom had been talking and she handed him a pass she had gotten from the office. The teacher mumbled something and nodded to dismiss her to her seat. She got her phone out and texted her little brother, telling him that she'd be with a new friend and that she'd give him the details later.

She banged against the doors, she couldn't go in there and try to hunt him down. Teachers and the other faculty would try to stop her. She growled and snarled then paused. If her mother found out she'd get a beating of a life time. Her eyes stopped glowing. The fur on her body went limp. She wiped her mouth and bashed the ground with her tail. "Damn.. He got away.."she whispers to herself and huffed. She walked away from the door when she realized teachers walked out in the hallway to see what's going on. She stood beside a wall and thought about what she just did. I... Was about to kill him.. I'm no different am i..? She teared up but remembered about Marcus. She rushed over to him and looked over his wounds. I should of helped him.. I'm such a monster.. She kneeled in front of him all teary eyed. "i-i'm sorry.."she couldn't find anything to say but that. Then she took her bag from her shoulder. Taking out a first aid kit. Her paws were shaky and claws were still out. "i'll p-patch you up.. Then help you to the nurse.." she sniffed a bit. Trying to hold back her emotions

Rocket, seeing that he'd been noticed, bared a toothy grin, but tried not to come off as too enthusiastic--he wasn't known to be.

"Sorry? Oh, no need. You must be pretty downtrodden after that little travesty... but, to answer your question: yes. But don't count yourself so special. I was also waiting for that otter who I would assume..."

His attention was drawn by the door opening once more as the vapor he had exhaled had almost dissipated.

"Mark, if I'm not mistaken?" he inquired, looking at the troubled creature. "I have to apologize for interjecting--and more presently for the haze--I'm sure, had I kept myself from getting involved, it very well may have ended with your phone being swatted from your paws. But that wolf... the whole lot of his pack..." he looked away and began to trail off. Catching himself, he returned his attention to the two considerably concerned non-canines, smiling again.

"Anyhow, my name is Rocket. Just Rocket. If you think it's silly, you're well to," he said as he hurriedly grabbed the limp paw of the dragon, and then the otter, shaking each vigorously. That aside, you two have caught my attention for sake of being, well..." he looked over both of them, "different. And, if you haven't gotten the impression yet, different is frowned upon by lots of folks around here." Realizing that he was being rather garrulous, he attempted to cut to the point, noticing that his audience appeared somewhat confused.

"Look," he spoke more quietly and candidly, "I'm a canine, but I hate the way that these wolves think that they're some sort of master race, and that they can get away with anything, just because there's a lot of 'em. So I'd like both of you to know that there is at least one friendly canine that has your back here." Hurriedly, he pulled out his wallet and removed two black business cards, adorned with an orange trim and white writing. He shoved one into each one of their paws.

"Those contain my name and number. If you ever need me. If you feel like you're being followed on your way home. If you said something that might land you with a broken shin. If you want to get some frozen yogurt. Let me know."

Before either could respond to him, he had already flung his bag over his shoulder once more and was jogging toward his classroom. He ignored some yelling and commotion that undoubtedly involved some belligerent wolf, arriving to class just in time to copy the overhead notes into his notebook and promptly fall asleep.
We'll see creation come undone,
These bones that bound us will be gone.
We'll stir our spirits 'til we're one,
then soft as shadows we'll become.

It worked. She knew shed kick up a shit storm if she followed him. He slowed feeling a sudden twang in his knee. Something hurt bad. Her grip mustve been a lot tighter than he thought. He sighed. His next class was english. With "dancy on your lap." he sighed. She always gave him this intense look. Almost like she was trying to figure him out. Or even..sympathy? Not the pity kind of sympathy. The i know you and i know why you hurt." kind of sympathy. Bah. But what did she know about pack violence..what did she know about holding friends with thier throats toren out as they bled out. What did she know about beatings. She was a pampered rich kid. Got a collage education and a degree, with a big enough ego to think she could change the world. Yeah. Good fucken luck. Little did he know what she had actually gone through. What shed seen. She knew how the packs were. Shed been there. But how could Guage know that? He didnt. To him her sympathy annoyed him just as much as her glares. He walked into her class in the library early since he hadnt had to migrate from another class. He sat alone in the door way as the other class mates hurried past. Whispering. One bird even pointed at Gauge. "What was that you feather brained f$!@" he said back and showed his teeth causing the bird and his buddies to quickly walk away. He went and sat at the back table and feeling alone he sighed. Gah..too much was going on today. His usually uptight, alpha male posture fell. He looked tired. Not sadistic, cruel, or Thug in any since of the word. Just..tired..beaten..and lonly.. He sighed again.then noticed being the only student ment hed gained samanthas full attention. The facade was back up as he tried to play off his lapse with a stretch. "What you lookin at. Why dont you teach huh? Stop starin and shit." he muttered as he pulled his hood up and laid his head down.

"Ah!", Marcus groaned, as Gauge let his face feel pain one more time. Please, someone end this, he thought, as he stared at Gauges fist, waiting for the next blow. Until something happened. Gauge suddenly fell backwards, hitting the ground. As he did, his grip was lost around Marcus, making him fall to the ground as well with a thud!. Groaning, because of his wounds, he did his best to crawl backwards to get away from Gauge, as Yuro suddenly jumped over him, tackling Gauge. He starred at it a little wide-eyed, taking deep breaths to try to catch his breath again. However, Gauge got up, and ran away. "Heh... c... coward", he mumbled, trying to smile, but didn't get that far until his jaws started to hurt. He couldn't hold himself up any longer. He went limp, relaxing on the ground, closing his eyes. This just hurt too damn much. Noticing Yuro rushing over to him, he felt relief as well as slight embarrassment. Now she'd probably think he's weak, right? When he couldn't even stand up against his own species. But was she... crying? For him? Do I really mean that much?, he thought, as he tried to get up, with no succes. He gave her a little nod, as to say "Thank you" for her help. He really wanted to say more... or at least something. But he felt too weak.

Before Mark's eyes could complete the journey from the floor up to the source of this strange cloud - he saw the e-cig a moment later - a voice greeted his ears.  The voice was familiar only distantly, from this morning, and that origin point set his fur on edge for just a moment before his eyes met with his original defender - the fox from earlier who'd spoken about Gauge's "overreaction" - as the creature spoke.

"Mark, if I'm not mistaken?" he asked.  How the hell did this fox know his name?  Mark couldn't recall saying it, but then again, names had hardly been on his mind in the classroom earlier.  "I have to apologize for interjecting--and more presently for the haze--I'm sure, had I kept myself from getting involved, it very well may have ended with your phone being swatted from your paws. But that wolf... the whole lot of his pack..." he trailed off, looking downwards.  It was here that Mark noticed something he'd failed to catch before - half of one of the fox's ear was entirely missing, the intact bits ending in clear scar tissue.  That was something.

Mark remembered that Gauge had mentioned some sort of previous conflict.  How often did this guy get into fights that were worth mentioning or made him lose ears?  The fox looked up, continuing.  "Anyhow, my name is Rocket. Just Rocket. If you think it's silly, you're well to," he said before he grabbed Mark's left paw with his left - his right was preoccupied in the dragon's matching talon - and shook.  This guy was . . . well, he was quite something.  Vaping in the halls?  Backing up two non-strangers in there?  Who was he?  At least he was a canine who was fine with them being, well, not.  He was different.  Wasn't there slang for non-canines?  Mark could distantly recall reading some rather offensive stuff online, but couldn't remember what they were . . .

"That aside, you two have caught my attention for sake of being, well . . . different."  Seemed him and Mark felt the same way.  His little soliloquy - delivered in grammar most proper, a quality Mark valued, he would note - continued.  "And, if you haven't gotten the impression yet, different is frowned upon by lots of folks around here . . . look," he said, just a little quieter now, "I'm a canine, but I hate the way that these wolves think that they're some sort of master race, and that they can get away with anything, just because there's a lot of 'em. So I'd like both of you to know that there is at least one friendly canine that has your back here."

Stuffing a hand into his pocket, the fox shuffled it around for a moment, and Mark realized he was following his movements, essentially starting at the fox's crotch.  Embarrassed, he looked away at the wall before turning his head back a moment later to see what the fox had produced - a wallet, out of which he pulled two crisp, new business cards.  Black with orange trim and white writing - guess the fox had a thing for Halloween? - they proclaimed 'Rocket' above a phone number.  Mark was almost tempted to turn them over and see if there was a bat or jack o' lantern on the back, but resisted the urge, instead tearing his face away from the card and back up to the fox.  To Rocket.

"Those contain my name and number. If you ever need me. If you feel like you're being followed on your way home. If you said something that might land you with a broken shin. If you want to get some frozen yogurt. Let me know."  Then, the guy stopped speaking and turned away, hurriedly walking down the hallway away from them.  Mark had to admit, confusion added to that which he already had, further complicating his present situation, was not entirely welcome.  Still, Rocket had seemed genuinely nice.  He had business cards.

But seriously, he was in High School.  Who on the planet had business cards for themselves in High School?  He was certainly different, as he'd told them.

. . . but what if he wasn't?  What if this guy was some twisted canine like the rest who'd only gotten on Gauge because he was part of another pack, or whatever, and now wanted to get at them?  Somehow.  Through a very indirect method.

Mark had to admit, it sounded far-fetched, but he wasn't about to let his security dial back for even a moment.  This morning had shown him that he couldn't do that.

Watching the last of the mysterious Rocket disappear around the corner, Mark turned to the hybrid standing next to him.  His face was furred, his eyes kind and . . . deep.

Except nope.  Mark immediately stopped studying him.  That wasn't going anywhere.

Turning his eyes slightly downwards, Mark spoke up, figuring he'd better at least greet this dragon before they probably parted ways for class.  "Hey, uh, are you okay?"  Seeing as how Mark barely felt that way himself, he figured it a good question.
