As Gauge threw the unconsious wolf into the stair way, Marcus jumped a bit. What is wrong with that guy? Can't even keep away from fights for once, he thought, as he ran towards him along Yuro. He was about to try to pick him up, as Yuro suddenly picked him up all by herself. Wow, he thought, a little wide eyed, as she headed down the hall towards the nurses office. He wanted to follow, but it seemed like she had it under control, so he just went back to the classroom. Walking inside, he noticed the wolf and fox girl from the class before. He didn't know why, but there was just something about him... that he didn't really like. Yes, he was a canine. Yeah, maybe that was it. Probably another gang member. He slightly shrugged and went back to his seat.

She blushed and shrugged at Neko. "You do, definitely, but some people don't think so. The wolves especially, they have some sort of problem with non canines." She moved closer and whispered in a secretive way. "But the biggest and baddest known wolf here is my best friend, and he's very protective of me." She smiled wide and swished her tail excitedly. "I'll introduce you to him at lunch, and I'll make sure he's nice." The white markings on her face turned a pinkish color as she realized she'd been rambling. "B-but that's enough about me, tell me about yourself." Tempest was more than interested, why'd she come here? What was her family like? What music was she into and why'd she join choir? She put her elbows on the desk and propped her head up with her hands.

"Let me dink...well I used to vive in moscow vhere my papa worked as engineer scientist for Russian space program. Dough he didn't get payed much and for few years my family save up money for chance to come to America. We only be here for two weeks so it take some getting used to. In fact I don't know how you americans stand did heat." Neko said. It wasn't obvious but Neko was actually really hot as she was used to close to freezing tempetature. She was actually getting pretty faint which she knew wasn't good.

Curled ivory steam softly danced its way up from the ebony liquid surface of the cup into Samantha's nostrils.  The steam itself didn't really have a smell to it, no, steam didn't tend to.  However, its warmth tickled the inside of her nose, relaxing her.  Second block was her planning period, and as soon as she'd finished gathering up and putting away her stuff from 1st Block in the library, she had eagerly withdrawn to the English department's faculty lounge and made herself a cup of coffee.  She wasn't quite aware why, but she felt abnormally cold, and the cup of coffee, plus the extra sweater she'd donned, helped with that.  At the least, she wanted to relax a little after the absurdity of homeroom and 1st block together.

As she carefully surrounded the warm styrofoam surface with her paws, another teacher, Peter Elizabeth, approached her, sitting down opposite her after entering the lounge.  He was a stout brown bear with semi-formal clothes and a usually neutral expression, and was one of the few at this school who she'd call a friend.  Producing a small bag of chips that only looked ever smaller in his massive paws, he looked at her with knowing eyes.  "Hey.  How are ya?" he asked after a moment.

She smiled up at him, removing her hands from the coffee cup to gesture up in the air.  "I'm doing just peachy, Pete.  How are you?" she asked, knowing immediately where this is headed.

He looked at her for a moment before he began shaking his head at her.  "It's a dead end, Sam."

        "Pete, I-"

"It's a dead end, and you know it," he intoned sharply, cutting her off a little.  Neither of them technically ranked higher than the other in the English department, but he was 8 years her senior at the school, and commanded a reasonable amount of respect for it.

Pausing for a moment to decide carefully on her next words, Samantha opened her mouth once, twice, before she finally approached the topic from a different angle.  "How'd you hear about it?"

He raised his eyebrows at her, smirking.  "You kidding?  I heard at least 3 different groups in the halls talking about it.  Sam, Gauge isn't gonna respond to us.  We simply don't have the, the, the chutzpah to reach a kid like him.  Let it go, it's not worth your job."

"Giving him lunch detention is not gonna cost me my job."

"Yet you and I both know it's gonna be something more than lunch detention.  I don't know what - you do - but I know it's not worth it, and it won't work. Whatever it is you've got planned - let it go."

She finished taking a long sip from her coffee as he spoke.  She always drank more of the nearest liquid when she was agitated or upset.  "You don't know that it won't work, Pete!  He pretends to be something he's not-"

        "Good Lord, not this again."

"- and I think I can reach that something!  Should we not try, as teachers?!" she finished.  He looked at her, narrowing his eyes as he tried to figure her out.  Bears could be ever so obvious about it sometimes.  They locked for but a moment before she looked away, reaching for her coffee as she sipped it down, finally finishing the rest of it.  After a long moment of silence, he decided to speak.

"Look, I worry about you Sam.  That's all.  I just don't wanna see you get in trouble for stunts like this."

"I've gotten out of them before, Pete.  When it comes to these 'stunts', I might as well be a professional tightrope walker."  Getting up, she grabbed her bag and the empty cup.  "Wish me luck."

"Don't be dumb," he called after her before the door shut.  Words to live by, she thought unpleasantly, knowing she was already being dumb.  She'd given him lunch detention in a moment of anger, an emotion that proved itself to almost always not be the best decision-maker.  Granted, she still had near complete faith in what she'd planned - for Peter was absolutely right that she was planning something - but she didn't have as complete of faith in what the ramifications might be if the school found out.  Either way, she needed to let the School Resource Officer know that Gauge was supposed to report to her classroom for lunch and that he was to be sent in if he didn't - the resource officer hated Gauge, same as the Principal, and likely wouldn't even ask her why she was trying giving him lunch detention in his personal eagerness to see a teacher stand up to the student.

Rounding the bend in the hallway, Samantha realized she still had the coffee cup in her hand.  She hadn't thrown it out.  Whoops.

Then, she heard a slam farther down, in the next hallway, before hearing hushed whispers.  Picking up the pace, she hurried to the corner, likely too eager to not leave well enough alone.  What could it possibly be now . . . ?

Standing before her as she moved around the next 90 degree angle of white-painted concrete was a scene that she took a moment to mentally process.  Up against the lockers was Gauge, put there by a white fox with his back to her.

And the white fox held a knife to Gauge's mouth.

She dropped the empty coffee cup in surprise, it making a tiny pittering sound as it bounced on the tiled floor.  Gauge was . . . and who was that . . . and why wasn't . . .

Her thoughts were jumbled, but still, regardless of the identity of the student with the knife, or that of the one being held to it, she had only one response.  "Hey!  Just what in God's name is going on here?!"

She sighed as she followed after marcus. Then grabbed his paw and pulled him with her to a seat. Smiling slightly at his surprised expressin. Blushing a little as she held his paw,"come, let's sit." then she  noticed the blood on her arm. Oh dear, it must be from that wolf's blood. She looked around for her bag."oh my, i need my bag for this. It'll stain my fur"

As she grabbed his paw, he got a little surprise, looking back at her, feeling a little blush in his cheeks. "Yeah, o-ok", he said, sitting down with her. He noticed the blood on her fur, and quickly (out of reflex almost) grabbed her arm (not hard though), and examined it for wounds. As he couldn't find any, he quickly sighed in relief, as he remembered the wolf she had carrried. Oh... right, he thought, feeling slightly embarrassed at his sudden action.

"Oh nothing, just a friendly chat. Thought i needed to smile more." Gauge said as the fox turned to look at samantha as well Gauge shoved him hard sending him into the other set of lockers. The knife cut the inside of his mouth as he did so. "Your new here friend. And you dont know me. But i promise you will. Next smile you gets going to be on your neck. You dig." Gauge growled spitting blood on the ground as the cut in his mouth began to bleed. He slowly reached for his own knife. Do it now. Gut the freaky little shithead. But samanthas right there. So? Shed get mad...again. So what. She might help us get out of this town..why? Why would she do jack for you.  I dont know. Its just a hunch. His hand moved from his knife. To his Police tazer his brother had given him freshman year after hed been jumped. He pulled it out smoothly and shot the crazed fox as all four hooks sunk in and the massive jolt slammed into the fox.

she blushed at his action and smiled. Oh, he was worried. She the stood up and walked over to the other desk she was sitting at and grabbed her bag. Walking back to her seat next to Marcus. She open her bag and got out some wipes. She closed her bag and sets it on the ground. Then starts to scrub out the blood from her fur. She then looked up at him while she was doing this and says,"well um, th-thank you about before. You calm me down back th-there" she blushed red on her cheeks and looked down again. I still  feel bad that he was crying though, she thought

As Gauge outlined to Samantha in rather cryptic language whatever it was that had been going on between the two of them, she shook her head as she tried to understand.  Frankly, she'd no idea what he was talking about.  Smile more?  Then, he'd shoved the other student - who had distinctive scars on either side of his mouth, she noted - into the opposite lockers, dislodging the knife from his grasp and getting the other student off of him.  Inwardly, she nodded in approval - it earned Gauge a small cut on the lip, but it was an excellent way to get his attacker off that was assertive but not immediately violent.

For a moment, a brief, odd moment, she was almost proud of Gauge.

        Then, he'd tased his assaulter.

Hand moving up to her open mouth, she stared on in shock.  She'd absolutely no idea of any kind what her position was in this situation.  Gauge, well, the tasing was unnecessary.  But he could make a solid case for self defense even on a bad day.  The guy had had a knife to his neck.  Still, though, the threat seemed to have passed by the time he'd shoved the other kid into the lockers, and given her past experiences with Gauge, Samantha was certain his use of the taser was as much for the satisfaction of a little revenge.  And that part was not okay.

And honestly, what the hell did Gauge have a taser for anyways?  Her eyes flicked to the other student, if only briefly, to see that he appeared unconscious.  Spying the other student's knife near her feet, she carefully grabbed it up off the floor, slipping it into her shirt pocket.  Then, she began approaching Gauge, hands up in a calm gesture.  "Gauge," she said, voice level.  "Gauge, he's down.  Put away the taser."

"Oh, uhh well... you're welcome... I just couldn't handle seeing you like that...", he said, rubbing the back of his neck, blushing deeper than before. Oh man... why did I have to cry?, he thought, looking down at the table. "And I, uhh... I just want you to be happy...", he then added, looking to the side, before turning his eyes to her again. "Hey, uhh... since I got your number, I wondered if you wanted mine?", he asked, trying his best to keep eye contact, "You know... if you ever need me to help you, or you just wanna talk or hangout...", he added. Very smooth there, Marcus, he thought.

She rummaged through her bag and found her biggest water bottle. Well, is was huge compared to her, but to Neko it was a little bigger than her hand. She handed it to her and smiled. "It should be cold, I let it cool in a river near my house last night and it froze." She realized how dirty the river was and she quickly stammered. "B-but don't worry! I kept the cap out of the water so I-its still clean." She desperately tried to explain but stopped and hung her head down. Christ Tempest just shut up. She ran her paw over her face before looking back up again. "You could probably get a fur cut? My mom would probably be happy to with no charge. She loves meeting people from my school, and I'm sure she'd love you." She giggled softly. "Might take a while though, she's only a little bigger than I am." She grabbed a smooth fragrant rock from her bag and ran it over her neck and cheeks, purring as she did so. "So why'd you join choir? If you don't mind my asking."

He did so without a thought. He was a little rattled. And samantha had just saved him sort of. "I-i didnt know if he was gunna get back up..m-my bad.." he said trying to shake off the adrenaline for a moment. He then realised who he was in front if and the walls came up so fast samantha could have geard a draw bridge go up. "Not that the weird freak didnt deserve it. Pulling a knife on someone means like expulsion or something right? He gives me th f@$king creeps." he said laying his back against the locker and slowly sinking down. His mouth hurt, his back hurt, and his ribs hurt. Today was just not for him. He caught samantha staring as usual trying to get a read on what he was thinking. "What?" he said more tired than angry. Whether she suceeced or not he didnt care. He just gave her a look that said "welcome to my life. Bask in its shitty-ness."  before slowly trying and failing to stand. Then after a moment he said in embarrassed exasperation. "W..would you help me up. My knees gave out." he said looking at the floor like he wanted to sink into it

And just as she'd requested, the taser immediately went away, disappearing from his outstretched paw.  A small, silent sigh of relief escaped her lips at this, but her immediate relief was then reduced by what she saw in Gauge.

She could remember, when she was younger, having once owned a little inflatable puppet theater.  You blew air into it, and a half hour of breathing in and out and one case of lightheadedness later, the whole thing expanded to be a trio of walls with a hole cut out for the puppets and various printed decorations on the sides.  She actually wondered if her parents had kept it?

She could also remember when you'd deflated the thing, it would let air out slowly (or a bit more swiftly if you jumped on it), whistling, slowly reducing itself in size until it was little more than a pile of plastic that you rolled into a bag.  And this analogy, she realized, wasn't actually the best for Gauge.  She'd thought it was at first.  But not entirely.

He did deflate, for the record.  Immediately his face fell, eyes looking off through the walls at some thing that existed kilometers away.  Voice incredibly quiet - and gentle, Good God, it was gentler than she'd ever heard it - he stammered out "I-I didnt know if he was gonna get back up..m-my bad..".  He looked like he could barely stand.  She'd never seen him like this.

Instantly, she began searching.  She wanted to see as much of him like this as possible.  She looked into his eyes and mined them for information.  What his eyes looked at in the distance, it was a flower, and the petals spread around a singular consciousness that the universe could not otherwise replicate.  The petals spread around Gauge.

She saw pain, she saw loss, she saw regret.  Somewhat surprisingly, she saw very little fear.  She saw hatred, but for what, she did not know.  She suspected, however, that it was reserved in large part for himself.  She saw all of these things, and she knew what they were because they had existed in herself only years prior.  Because they still lurked, down in the deep dark of her soul, reminding her that the past existed and there was absolutely nothing that would ever change that.  Ever.

Then, a new look.  Recognition.  This one spread across his entire face, replacing the previous face - one of weak exhaustion.  And just like that, his entire face then changed to the old Gauge.  The one she knew from class.  The one that picked on others to show he could pick on others and wasn't weak.  The one that had something to prove and a lot to loose.  Yeah, that one.

His eyes frosted over with an icy indignation, his face contorted back into a grimace.  He was back.  "Not that the weird freak didnt deserve it," he said, huffing out as he did.  He looked at her darkly.  "Pulling a knife on someone means like expulsion or something right? He gives me the f@$king creeps."  She didn't even bother correcting him for language or responding.  What was the point when he'd already shut her out?

Yet he hadn't entirely, couldn't entirely, and she noticed this after a moment.  Although Gauge wanted everything about him to speak to the same old bullying bigot he always was - and his face, eyes, and voice surely agreed - his body was not entirely on board.  As he spoke, he still looked weak, shoulders slumped, head down, arms at his sides - and after a moment, he even stumbled backwards before hitting the lockers behind him and sliding to the floor.  She watched him, face sad, seeing that his day, a day of bullying that would have been a triumph for many other canines in this school, was not nearly so for the wolf before her.  This shit had taken a lot out of him.

Noticing her looking at him, his eyes narrowed, exasperated.  "What?" he asked tiredly.  He stared at her, and even though he was trying to hide himself, that stare was more telling than anything else he'd done already.  It was a stare that said he knew this, he experienced this every day, he was used to it.  It was a crock of shit, but he was used to it, and used to dealing with it.

He started to get up, but just . . . couldn't.  Then, embarrassed, without meeting her eyes or even looking up, "W..would you help me up. My knees gave out."

She looked over at the kid he'd attacked.  He was still out, or at least, he appeared to be.  How in the hell was she gonna deal with this?  The truth would get them both expelled, no problem.  Of this she had no doubt.  And as much sympathy as she had for Gauge, she was very willing to bet this kid had a decent reason for becoming angry like he had.  Gauge had a tendency to create such emotions in others.  'Course, she was willing to bet that whatever it was that had inspired him to violence wasn't a decent reason for pulling a knife and seriously threatening another.  Very few things would ever be, in her book.  But either way, the truth being told was off the table, for both their sakes.

Then lie.  But how?  Send Gauge back to class, say that this student had collapsed . . . yes, maybe that could work, but she needed a way to keep him quiet when he woke up, or else he'd destroy the whole thing.

And what the hell was she doing?  She was getting in deep, so deep.  She didn't want this.  She didn't want to have to deal with any of this.  Yet it appeared it was going to be her problem no matter what, unless she just walked away.  It was an option she could take, she knew.  And it tempted her, calling . . .

Feeling weak herself, she did not help Gauge up.  Instead, she crossed over to his left, not making eye contact with him, as she sat down next to him on the tile floor.  She sighed out as she did so, knees in front of her chest, resting her hands on them.  "Never thought you'd be asking for my help," she said with a small chuckle.  Then her face turned serious again as she sighed out again and pulled herself back into the present. "Dammit, Gauge" was all else she had to say in a quiet tone. It was no small miracle in of itself that no other students had come into the hallway yet.  She knew that should only have spurred her more eagerly into action, into dealing with this before it could get out of hand, but for right now, she wanted a moment to rest.   To rest, and to think.

She smiled and nodded. Pulling out her phone from her bag. Turning it on and going to contacts."w-well sure, let me have your number. Maybe we can hang out after, i have to see my mom though so i hope you wouldn't mind"she shyly looked to the side. Ugh it's like introducing a new boyfriend. Oh i hope no one gets the wrong idea. It'll be more trouble for him.

He smiled back, as she pulled out her phone, feeling good it didn't turn out too awkward. "No no, that's fine", he quickly said, as she told him about her needing to see her mom first. Well... meeting the parents... Oh get real, he thought, shaking his head a bit. It had nothing to do with that. He told her his number, as she tapped it into her phone.
