I'm glad I waited to read it until work tonight. It really made my night better, and I was able to focus on it in the way it deserved. *can't resist hugging Pegu and nuzzling* It really was fantastic. I tried to think of something to help, but short of minor editing, there was nothing I found that could be told better. The characters were all wonderful, had their own personalities, everything was explained all the way down to that even though there was a new lead, the old one would be there to help them through. I'm serious! You should never stop writing and creating. Even if you don't feel this is your novel or series, one will eventually come to you. I created Crystal first, and Hearts came after - but Hearts of the Elements was the one that was -my- big story. When that day comes for you, I want to be there to see it and come along for the entire ride.

I'll be starting part 3 later - and it's taking a fair chunk of me to not spoil parts of it right now. I keep a notepad file with all my ramblings in it that are slowly expanding and becoming what I've put up so far

I remember doing that with my worlds. To see a small idea you have blossom and expand and become something you never expected. I'm glad your story is doing the same. The smallest thing can add so much more.

Initially I had my characters starting in winter, going to spring, summer, fall. Then Kayara did the most minor thing, that altered what Jo had to do and made it so Jo needed time, which meant it changed to winter, fall, summer, spring and added hundreds of pages. X.x I can't tell you how much fun it is to see your story doing the same to you.

Not sure if I'll be at the hundreds of pages mark any time soon, but I'm trying my best

I think that's the real fun of it. You don't have to try - absolutely don't force it. It feels forced if you do. A little secret? My series started as three books. When I just wrote and enjoyed the characters, I was 140 pages in and they hadn't even heard about the Guardians much less started on them. So it became one book per world. At 250 and they'd just gotten to the first, I realized ... I'm going to have to make each world two books.

*Scratching an ear* I still have the shade wolves to cover, more for N'Rtara, the buddy duo's adventure, Aglaeca's whole deal - and there's still a few more surprises up my sleeve that remain to be seen

Perfect, that will let me show you what I mean! You don't tell all of each story at the same time. And each chapter, you write what, four - five pages? Figure in that that little bit you wrote brought them just to the tree. How much more of their individual story do you have to tell? It's not going to end in just 20 pages. "There, it's told, I'm done." I know you're not thinking that. Now break that up, and insert what, three more subplots? Those subplots tie into the overall story, which is a fourth bit you address as you go. Jumping back and forth between stories in one place ... you're going to have around 50 pages for just the duo, on the low end. That's an average or assumption. Mine (Jo's war, defeating the guardians, the anega, the battle for Winter's Veil) all had leadups that are still not finished. I didn't plan for it to be that way, it just was.

But, for the sake of the point, look at each story and say roughly 50 pages. Let's go less, just to make it where you think that's entirely possible (keep in mind how long just the duo's story is and they just got started). Let's say 40 pages? You have five stories, with more springing up as you write those stories, more than likely - along with inbetweens to move certain plot points along. That's 200 pages, low end.
