Explaining Furries/Fursuits to your parents?
« on: March 08, 2016, 07:10:54 AM »
Hey everyone!

I just said to my mum that one day I want to own a fursuit and I asked her if she knew what it was and she said no, I asked her of the knew what a furry was and she said no, I tried to briefly explain it to her and her only question was "Why would you want to dress up like an animal?" And she ended up getting pretty uninterested in the topic  XD

What about you guys, how did your announcement/explanation of being a furry go?

At this point, I'd hold off a few years to get a fursuit. You're probably still growing, and there aren't many instances where you'd be able to wear one of those things with school and all. You should also consider that quality has a price, and that fursuits can cost significantly more than any parent would be willing to spend or approve.

Haha yeah I wasn't planning on getting one soon, I have actually stopped growing but I'm going to be saving up money from working to get one from FurredUp (they seem like good makers) for $2300.

Also I never plan on telling my mum about the "other side", Saph xD

$2300 is a hefty sum of money. You will have to prioritize anything that comes up first, and consider what you may or may not need the money for in order of importance.

Yeah I certainly will, being a 16 year old though I don't have any Major financial responsibilities, when I have a job I give lots of my money to my mum for rent and bills but if I save up enough I'll hopefully have enough for a nice suit. I'm in no rush being so young and all haha :P

Well I was going on and on about how I found this artwork of a half human artwork I told my mother. A few days later I saw the first trailer ever for Zootopia and I fell I love with that also. And now I draw furries all the time and my mother just knows I'm a furry. She was the one who told me about them and I said "I'm that!" And she replied "oh god" with a facepalm XD

My mother hates furries. She is afraid of any kind of mascot or mask things because she doesn't know who is behind it. There is a certain phobia related to that. Also, she thinks its deviant from Jesus so she doesn't like it doubly so.

My parents introduced me to Renascence festival costuming, and that turned into anime cosplay, which turned into fursuits. They know I love making costumes, so they aren't really worried about it. And I'm not going to delve into the whole 'alternate self' bit until I move out and get my life somewhat sorted, though my family is a bunch of incense hippies anyway, all into spiritual selves and whatnot. :P
