My dad found NSFW furry art on my computer when I was 17, so it was a pretty awkward conversation to start.
Well, he knocked me out before I could say anything, and we never talked about it again.
My mom was too negligent enough to care.

I think he was more surprised to find, uh, porn on my computer than what the comics and such actually were depicting. ^^'

That would make sense  XD  but add the furry aspect to it which probably gave him a double reaction to it haha

If I had to explain furries or if I wanted a fursuit THAT badly, I'm pretty sure I'd go through with it fine. But what gets me is the ambiguous reaction from my parents, such as this:

"Umm... well, that's alright, uh, just do what you like. It's not a, er, problem. We definitely can't get you a fursuit right now, however, sorry."

I'm certainly not a fan of that thought, however harmless it is.

My mom is a Disney nut, so after seeing Zootopia I gave her a couple gentle nudges; expressing interest in fursuits, learning to sew (Specifically for making things like paws and ears.), showing her my fursona and explaining. She obviously understands that there is a very, uh... for lack of a more respectful term... unusual side, so I don't have to explain why there is a Krystal fursuit that's nearly nude at Comic-Con.

My parents only vaguely know what furries are from that CSI episode, so I'm apprehensive about saying anything about it.
When I was in middle school my mom knew I drew "anime" animals and she was fine with it, so I think that was a nudge in the right direction even before I considered myself a furry. They also let me buy ears/tails, but I told them it was for cosplay and a Halloween costume, which they ended up being anyway. I still wear them when they aren't around though.

Honestly I don't really ever plan on telling them. My boyfriend's parents are disgusted by furries but he doesn't really have a presence in the fandom, he just has anthro characters.

If I ever really had to tell them, like if they ask, I'll just say that they're people who like anthropomorphic animals.

There are two kinds of people in this world. A French horn player is better than both of them.
