Furry language?
« on: March 23, 2016, 07:34:04 PM »
I know this might sound weird at first, but I'm thinking of having (a/some) language(s), that members in the furry fandom will speak (well it's not strictly required, just an interesting thing to add to furry culture.) also, while not something I'm opposed to, it should be a modified script of either English or korean; but it could be completely original, like Klingon or something. I have two conflicting ideas/thoughts in my head; one part of me says that a completely new language would be hard to learn and also useless because there's no country that speaks it… however, another part of me says that if it is simply English with modified characters, it wouldn't be too interesting and would be more like a kiddie 'secret language'.

Personally, I'm leaning towards the new language creation sort of thing; because, the fandom could put words into it that don't work in english, and, provide new ways to describe things or form new ideas. But, if it used some roman characters with new characters and sounds created, I would find that a happy medium.

I've seen some pretty decent things on 'omniglot.com', so who knows?

Tell me suggestions and stuff. Also, sorry for the bad structure of this post; I'm really anxious right now and also absolutely livid at the same time.

I would stick with using English as an official language, but we could improve it with Furry Slangs and sayings or use completely new words for some that already exist.
Like the difference between "Lorry" and "Truck", absolutely none, the only thing there is the fact that one word grew in a completely different culture than the other one.
We already have some special Furry words, like " yiffing" (best example) but I agree that we could make way more words and expressions, I think that's a good idea.
We should write a lot of ideas here and vote the best ones to add to a Furry Dictionary of Slangs.

That sounds pretty good. Just thought furries having a unique language integrated into their culture would make it more interesting

Well, there will be a pretty good amount of people who will want to learn it. Just look at LOTR, so many people have fully translated elvish and can speak it fluently.

I just thought it would be pretty cool

There already exists furry slang, most of is unfortunately sexual in nature, but there are components that are not! People say "Rawr!" "Arf!" and so forth, to mean a whole bunch of things, things like "Fursona" is a furry slang word, as well as "Fursuit" and several other words. Furry language has already naturally developed within the furry world

I can create a constructed script, just need to know wether it should be a syllabry or an ideograph language.

If it's a completely new language, we should all COLLAB on it.

It already exists, but, shouldn't we get a medium of our own to express our selfs with? Almost all Americans hate furries, so, why should I use the language of a furry hating country?

If you want to stick with making an actual language, I would suggest doing a lot of research first. There is a whole subreddit dedicated to conlangs (constructed languages). If it is to be a spoken language as well as written, I suggest making a list of sounds, and then a chart on how the sounds interact with each other.

Here is an interesting language-based YouTube channel to give you an introduction.
Here is another. And here is the guy who made Dothraki and Valyrian, if I remember correctly.

I am very interested in linguistics, and although I am new to the furry fandom, I will gladly assist you in making a new language!

then we'll just disappear into oblivion"

Looks like all middle eastern languages, Asian Languages, Russian and Ukrainian shouldn't be spoken by furries either. They legitimately shut down furry stuff if they see it, therefore have it banned, ergo "hate" it by your definition. Oh man, that evil English though. With every country they have allowing furry cons. They must really hate Furries. Man oh man, that attempt at media coverage to be positive is so hateful, just wow. For sure, no habla englisch.

For **censor**'s sake don't make such thoughtlessly sweeping statements. The United States is where about 80% of this forum's traffic comes from in the first place, it was made by an American, is now owned by a British immigrant living in the US, with 90% of the staff living in the US. And I'll tell you, I've not once dealt with a furhater irl, and I've told a good thirty plus strangers, though I have met several online. The majority of people in the US don't hate furries. Hell, I'd say the majority don't have the slightest clue what the **censor** a furry is lmao. Come on, that was a really dumb comment.

Look, make a language, by all means. It's a cool project idea in itself, but don't go making bullshit claims like that. XD
