Hello There
« on: January 30, 2017, 01:08:17 AM »
Hello there. I'm Cerverie, and though I'm not new to being a 'furry', I've never truly experienced the fandom itself. So, in an attempt to overcome my timidity, I found myself signing up here, seeking new discussions and possible friends.

I'll keep it simple:

- I dedicate the majority of my time to playing musical instruments, in which I play an acoustic guitar, a violin, and an ukulele. However, I also enjoy trying new trades and seeing what I might wish to further pursue. I've dabbled into areas such as writing, 3D modeling, programming, and, as of late, drawing.

- I love music and I adore listening to it on vinyl. Most of my musical taste comes from the twentieth century, and whilst my preferred genres are forms of rock, I can appreciate just about any genre, give or take some exceptions.

- I'm very much an avid gamer. My favourite genre is role-playing, but I play many games of all sorts, from puzzles to simple action. My most favoured video game series, which I have played through many times, are Fallout and Mass Effect.

- I love science fiction and am quite a 'trekkie'.

- My fursona is a female deer.

Well, I think that makes a decent enough introduction for myself. Thank you all for taking a moment to read it.

If there's anything else that you would like to know, something that you wish to know more about, or you simply want to talk to me, feel free to reply and/or message me! I'll gladly reply when I can.

Yes, it is. I figured that I would keep it short and to-the-point, highlighting the most interesting bits. I didn't want to keep anyone reading longer than they really should.  :P

Thank you, though!

Thank you very much! It's lovely to meet you, as well. As for my favourite Star Trek series, that's a fairly difficult choice, considering my indecisiveness. I've only watched TOS, TNG, and I'm currently a little over halfway through season five of DS9, but I've enjoyed them all. Whilst I adore TOS, I would have to say that it's currently a difficult choice between TNG and DS9; they both have their great episodes. As of now, it's easier to argue that The Next Generation is my most favoured, as I've properly finished it - but Deep Space Nine has been improving as its plot thickens, and, considering that I quite like its more grim tone, it's entirely possible that, to me, it may just surpass TNG in time.

TNG's my favorite, probably because it's the version I grew up on. When I hear "Star Trek," that's the version that comes to mind first. Although Voyage Home is my favorite of the movies.

Welcome to the forums, Cerverie!

Have you been in the furry fandom for long?
And why did you choose a female deer as your fursona?

Thank you.  ^_^

Honestly, this is the first time I've attempted direct involvement with fellow members of the fandom, but I've considered myself a furry for just about a year now. The idea of furries had intrigued me for a few years, but I didn't have a proper 'fursona' of my own, nor did I explore much of it until last year, when my boyfriend became interested in it.

I chose a deer simply because I find deer utterly adorable and a bit suiting for me. As for why I chose a female, well, I would suppose it's because I often enjoy leaning towards and expressing the feminine side of gender.

TNG's my favorite, probably because it's the version I grew up on. When I hear "Star Trek," that's the version that comes to mind first. Although Voyage Home is my favorite of the movies.

TNG is certainly a high point in the entire series. As for the films, I feel that First Contact is my favourite. But I have to agree with you - The Voyage Homecomes very close. It's different in tone from the usual Star Trek affair, but the use of its lovable cast and light-hearted humour makes for a refreshingly simple and fun viewing.

You're very welcome.  ^_^

And, once again, thank you. I was quite hesitant to do this, but it is helping in bringing positivity back into my mind.

Hello, aaaand welcome to the Forums.
Your Avi reminded me definitely of Fallout and Star Trek at first sight...

Enjoy your Stay, and hopefully that's not been the last time seeing.

* .\V/ * - tried Vulcanian Greeting... Well... Could be better.

It does, doesn't it? It's really artwork from Fallout 1/2, so it does have that 'retro sci-fi' look to it.

But thank you. As of now, I do plan to stay and, hopefully, contribute, so that shouldn't be the last time.  :)

Hiya Cerverie!

Glad you've joined us, you sound very interesting.  Feel free to chat or just say hi if you see me around!

In the meantime you can always ask me any questions you may have.

But first I have a question for you!

Have you seen Star Trek Beyond?
I haven't yet and honestly wasn't terribly interested until I saw a review of it suggesting it was a return to the spirit of classic Trek.

Thoughts?

Hello there!

Why, thank you! That's very kind of you to say.  ^_^

I'll be sure to keep those in mind, as well.

Yes, I saw Star Trek Beyond at the theatre last July. I never fancied the modern reboot films much, either, but hearing that it bore a fair amount of similarity to the classic films did intrigue me.

From what I can recall, it was actually quite a decent film, and in a sense, I could argue that it certainly seemed a fair bit more like a classic Trek film than the rest of the modern lot. Yes, it still had plenty of simple action sequences and whatnot, but I feel that it did display acknowledgement and affection for the classics through things such as its quirky humour, the character writing, and its plentiful references, among others. Simply put, I feel that it's the best and most Star Trek-esque of the modern films. However, it, in my opinion, is still not quite as good as the likes of, say, The Wrath of Khan or First Contact. Nonetheless, I would argue that it was certainly a step in the right direction.

I apologise if that was a bit rubbish; I'm not spectacular at reviews.  :P

Still, I think it was a pretty solid film and a rather fun thing to watch. I would likely recommend watching it at least once, solely because one could argue that is the better representation of the Trek that we know and love, if anything.

That was very helpful!  I don't get as much film watching time as I'd like, so I try to spend it wisely.

Wrath of Khan is kinda the standard to live up to really.  I'm quite fond of TOS and TNG but the original crew films are really my favourite.

Hey, here's a thought: if TOS crew were furries what species would you make them?
