How Do You Guys Like The Idea Of Historical RP's?

What I mean by this, is that they would all be grounded in realty. No powers, no sorcery and magical stuff. Just RP's set in historical time periods. I'll provide some examples below.

On the pure notion of historical RP's: I (would) love them. Although more historical events and times more than others.
However, I'm always a bit nervous/anxious when it comes to those kind of RP's, as it is based on real/actual events, so I am nervous I would be doing/saying something wrong. Kind of like... Stupid example but: My characters mentions the Titanic when the RP is set in the Middle Ages. You know?
It's a stupid example, but it is mostly being nervous with regards to smaller, more finer details.
 
Does that make sense?


As for which historical time examples you mentioned, I would favour Ancient (Edo) Japan and Mafia (wrote a paper on it to getmy diploma and passed ) as roleplays.
In general I love history, so... ALL THE TIME PERIODS! for me.
Other time periods I think I would like as an RP setting would be:
Ancient Greece
Ancient Rome (particularly Nero, Hannibal, and other such important events/people)
Vikings/Norse history

I personally think this is an awesome idea, especially medieval ages. I don't know if this is something that you would be willing to do, but; I would love to see an RP that contains the nitty gritty reality of the past. Of course it wouldn't really be considered PG in that case.

I like Cold War, the World Wars, and American Revolution or Civil War. Although I don't many furs would be interested in Civil War/Revolution eras.

I think they're great but like with Ventus I would be worried about messing up the minor details regarding historical events and the like. I do like the fact that there wouldn't be any magical OP characters (cuz those tend to just put me off). It'd be especially good if they were in the world wars cuz those are my favourite parts of history

I love this idea.  Realistic RPs are the ones I'm most interested in, and I'd love to do a variety of different historical ones, particularly those set in Rome during the height of the Roman Empire, and those set in America during and after World War II and the Cold War.

Maybe furry Soviet spies?  Just spitballing ideas.

I think they're pretty lit but I'm afraid I will **censor** up and constantly have to look up if I'm doing everything correctly. However I usually join your Rp's and seem to do well, I just get a little stressed that I'll do something that'll make me see like a complete moron.

I mean, I can't speak for the actions of the GM, but the worst that could happen is that you screw up and we all discuss it in the OOC thread, right?  Between a couple of us, we could probably keep track of historical facts fairly well.  One would hope.

I remember in one WWI RP a guy had a Barrett .50 cal sniper rifle with suppressor. I had to point out those weren't invented yet I'm sure we can catch most errors that'd be a problem as we set it up and minor ones in the RP could just be let go

In my opinion, WW1 and WW2 settings are very hard to play -- not because it will require some knowledge on politics, people and weapons of the era, but rather, because someone will have to be an obvious loser. So, if it's a WW2 setting, we can't all represent the Alliance and fight countless nazi NPCs right?
 
Now Mafia and Edo might work much better being open worlds, just a background for whatever we come up with.
 
Therfore, even having lesser to no knowledge on Mafia or Edo, I'd vote for them!

AlexLion, I disagree about WWI or WWII settings.  I can't speak to the type of conflict the DM will be producing, but in my mind, the legitimate fun in RPs doesn't come from fighting NPCs, it comes from a cast of engaging characters necessarily clashing when differing personalities meet.  Hell, when he recommended an RP set during one of those two wars, I was personally imagining a drama set in America during those time periods, not set in the war, though that was also just my own kind of projecting.


Just my thoughts.  Oh, and if I had to vote overall, I'd say WWII or Western.
