Ray released his rifle, and placed his paws just above his head. "If I had wanted to hurt, she would not draw breath."
The laser sight settled on the center of Ray's head, and the unidentified person on the radio growled, "That sounded awfully close to a threat; and I don't take threats all that well..."
Skye's breath got quiet, and a tear formed in her eye. "James..." she whispered.
"... but, fortunately for you, I've been here long enough. Know that I watch over you all; especially
you, Skye - and you know all to well the reason why," "James" stated.
"... how...?" Skye managed to ask.
"A story for another time," James answered. At that moment, the laser sight vanished, and a shadow on a rooftop across from Ray rose and dashed away like a blur.
Skye, however, seemed to be in shock, as though she'd seen a ghost and got gut-kicked at the same time.
