[Blaiiine]

Blaine climbed in the passenger seat and turned the CD player on. Lighting a cigarette, he closed his eyes and leaned back. Occasionally humming to the song, he stayed silent.


Tyler took the jacket off his nose and wiped his muzzle off. "Thanks.." He replied, remembering the pistol in his lap. He set it down and covered it with his jacket. Looking back up at Kai, he asked, "Does it look bad?"

She inspected it, "Not too bad, I can probably keep you from a crooked nose." She looked at his bleeding nose a little more, "Gonna hurt a little, ready?" Her hands went up to his nose, not touching it though. Holly kept driving

She lightly felt around for the important pieces, then sharply forced them into place. She took out the bandaging and somehow made it so that the bandages didn't go all the way around his he

"Ah...hell," Tyler said, wincing. He checked the first aid box again, taking some pain medicine and a water bottle from it. Taking a few pills, he drank part of the bottle and tossed the rest to Blaine. "So...where do we go from here?" He asked Blaine.


Taking a drink, Blaine gestured to wait. He set the plastic bottle down and took a drag off his cigarette. "Remember that guy Bradley? From work?" Blaine asked Tyler, who replied, "Yeah, that manager who constantly took those burritos from the.." Blaine cut him off, "Yeah, that guy. He talked about some cabin he had upstate. We'll go there, doubt that fat guy made it through this." He finished, passing the rest of the cigarette to Holly.


"Upstate, huh? I always wanted to see the forest," Tyler said, messing with his bandages. Taking out a cigarette, he looked in the back to David and Alan. "He alright? And what about you, dude? How'd it start at the university?" Tyler asked.

"Alright, do we know where it actually is though?" Said Kai, slightly worried. Holly pulled the truck to a stop in an abandoned garage.

"Somewhere in the San Gabriel mountains, off the road to the Angeles National Forest. I've seen it once but I remember the turn off. There was a stupid sign for the park, had some dumb bird on it." Blaine replied, rubbing his temple with one paw. "Take the highway out of town, then head toward the national park." He told Holly.


Tyler sat quiet in the back, switching back and forth from looking at Kai to checking on Alan. "Guy's out cold." Tyler said, more to himself than anybody.

She nodded, pulling back out she revved it for the high way. Kai nodded, " Don't know how to get him up,"

"Just let him sleep, if he turns..," Tyler paused, looking back at where the gun was. "If he turns, we'll handle it." He sat back in his seat and lit his cigarette. Taking a few drags off the smoke, he looked to Kai and said, "So, David's been awfully quiet since we picked him up."


Blaine turned the radio up a bit, rolling his window down about a third of the way. "So, this guy's cabin. It's pretty big, said his trust fund paid for it. Go figure, rich scumbag. Anyway," He lit a cigarette and continued, "He said it had a lockdown system and solar panels. It's perfect, at least for the moment." Blaine finished, looking to Holly for her reply.

With the noise from the radio, the cold air rushing in hi face, and the abrupt stop-and-start of the car, Alan began to stir. His eyes flittered open at the mentioning of his name. He began to panic at first, feeling the moments before when he thew himself into the hoarde, but he panted it out and calmed himself down when his surroundings began to sink in.

He glanced around at everyone and confirmed that everyone made it out okay... and that they had somehow managed to get himself into the car, to his surprise. They hadn't left him. Another wave of relief washed over him.

"Thank you," was all he could manage to say from a slurred tongue.

"No problem," Tyler replied before tossing Alan a bottle of water. "Drink it," He said, going back to looking on his phone.

Alan gratefully accepted the bottle and chugged the whole thing. The coolness soothed his parched throat.

He tossed the empty container into the floorboard and gazed out the window. Flashes of his dead friends tainted his view of the passing scenery. He forced his eyes shut and shook his head. While they all would have a place in his heart, he couldn't let the pain of their deaths cloud his thinking again. Not here. Not now. It was too painful. He would have to mourn them once he was safe. But as long as he could help it, he would never let anyone else get infected. Not one. No deserved to die like that.

He sighed heavily and cleared his head.

Speaking of saving people... Alan thought to himself as he turned to the newest member of the group.

"David's safe," he said nodding to him. "Where to now?"

David nodded back.  "I just watched teachers and friends get slaughtered. Can't see myself being chatty." Holly snorted "A sneaky little bitch?"

"We're going to San Gabriel Mountains, some cabin outside them." Tyler said to Alan. He ignored David's comment, going back to checking his phone. His nose still hurt but the bleeding had finally stopped, leaving a small red mark on his bandages.


Blaine woke up from his short nap, noticing their turn coming up. "Take a right here, then keep straight. I'll tell you when we turn again." Blaine said to Holly. His head was pounding, and his eyes burned. "God, I'm hungover." He muttered.
