What (Ancient) God(s) do you like?

What god of which (ancient) civilisation do you like the most or catches your interest, and why?

I've always had an interest in particularly Greek mythology and then Norse mythology, and some Native American mythology as well. I particularly have always liked Loki (hah, before Marvel made him a thing again! ) and his crazy -sometimes even insane- antics.
Hermes is one of the Greek gods I've had an interest in, but even moreso Athena.

The only ancient god that really interested me was Anubis. Because dog-headed warriors in Age of Empires: Mythologies.

Anubis is my favorite. Lucario is based on Anubis and is actually the first thing I noticed that caught my eye. And now I is a pink one.

Celtic protector of horses and riders, goddess of fertility, and also suggested to be the one leading people's soul on the ride through the after-life according to their belief, altho that one isn't really confirmed.
She was so popular that she even ended up being adopted and worshipped by the Romans, which most other Celtic gods didn't.
She also didn't "require" any special place of worship like a temple or whatever, people usually just had a small shrine to her in or near their stables.
Makes sense.
She also liked roses and rose petals, so people would make offerings of those at her shrines.
Along with the odd foal and horse.

Greek: Athena, I've always been intrigued by the idea of a goddess that represents both war and wisdom.

Africa/Caribbean: Anansi, he was my introduction to trickster animals and his stories were always the best! I also loved how he took the form of a spider most of the time, that just made his feats so much more powerful! Tricking the mighty tiger in the form of a tiny spider, go Anansi!

Celtic: The Dagda, for a while I considered myself a pagan growing up, he was the main god that I chose to follow. He seemed pretty chill whenever I tried talking to him, I dunno.

For me Thor was always really interesting. I hate that he has been so "commercialized" though.


From the Japanese culture (although not THAT ancient) I was aways intrigued by the shinigamis.


Aaand even though I am greek I don't really like any particular ancient god but rather hemitheos (half humans half gods). My favorites are Hercules and Kratos

Of all the ancient gods I must say that nearly all of the ancient egyptian ones really intrigue me the most! Especially Anubis, Sekhmet, Seth and Apis!



Then however I am also strongly drawn to the native finnish mythology as well with gods and spirits that have gone hugely unnoticed amidst the more popular and mainstream mythologies, such as the norse and greek mythology that has pretty much given birth and inspiration to countless different fantasy stories we have today!


Also I am quite curious about the ancient slavic deities their mythology as well that has also gone under the radar that requires more reading into!

I've always found gods/goddesses that are of the dead to be the most interesting. Like Hades or Anubis for example. I find how different cultures perceive death to be fascinating.

I am drawn towards the Norse mythology because it is linked with the medieval/viking era, which I am rather fond of. The stories of Odin and Thor always struck me as the more interesting.

Ares and Aphrodite. The god of war and the goddess of beauty. I love their names and I used to read Percy Jackson a lot, and they were my favorite gods in it.
