Can I do this?
« on: March 16, 2018, 09:48:54 AM »
So I'm about to make a foam fursuit head but I went to almost every single mall, every single store here in Metro Manila,Philippines and I cannot find any fur!

Can I use a dehumidifier to put inside to prevent mold? It'll be velcroed on.

Can I use fleece blanket and cut it so it's only one layer and use that for fur?

I have no idea about the dehumidifier, but I don't see why not as long as the suit remains safe and comfortable for you.

You might want to consider purchasing supplies online if you can. I'm sure you could make a blanket work for material if you needed to though.

Unfortunately there's a severe lack of good places that sell good fur in stores. Depending on where you live I'd just do a google search for fabric stores near you, but even where I live there's hardly any fur, much less good fur in stores, I've always ordered samples and my fur/pleather online.
People have made suits out of fleece before, you just need to be mindful of the pilling the fabric makes after being handled and such!

As for a dehumidifier, I'd personally recommend against that idea, you'd need a large enough area to help with airflow if I remember correctly, it'll add to the weight and bulk and if you need to drain it, you'll need to make an opening to take the dehumidifier out. It'd be a cool idea to try for sure! I personally wouldn't do it. I make vents in the ears and the back of the head, plus ventilation from the eyes and nose/mouth, and a lot of people put small computer fans in the muzzle and even the ears to help with airflow.

The dehumidifier I'm planning on using is a little box with holes and dehumidifier beads inside.

Do you think that'll work?

From what I recall, long-term fursuiters seem to install "solid state air conditioning" units into their costumes, so they are able to move about for a much longer amount of time.
