Your Real Life Friend Perspectives Upon Furry?
« on: March 31, 2018, 08:06:57 PM »
What is/are your friend(s) perspectives upon your furry interests? Do you share them with your friends?

Personally I don't typically share them with people unless people ask me about my hobbies, I don't consider the hobby something to be afraid of discussing in real life. The few real life friends I do have don't seem to mind it at all, but I don't bring it up all that often. My friends just seem to think of it as strange or just another unique quality of me.

I share that I'm a furry whenever the topic is appropriate to bring up. So far my friends all think it's fine. I had to explain it to them because in the Netherlands the furry phenomenon is largely unknown. And one of them in perticular seems to be pretty interested in what the whole furry business means to me... :squint:

My friends simply don't care...

In the past I've actually tried to befriend some furries on TF2, but they were for some reason all the really weird obnoxious fetish-sex crazed types of furries, and besides that, really toxic players...
It kinda became a meme pretty quickly, and now that's just their rock-solid impression of furries.

They don't care if someone's a furry or not, they just don't want to get involved with it, they don't want to hear about it, and they don't even care for an explaination on that being a furry is in itself not a sex thing.

They don't know that I'm a furry though. They just know that I like animals a lot. I think I'd like to keep it that way, atleast untill they'd let me explain that it's not a sex-thing... >_>

They don't know that I'm a furry and I simply don't feel the need to share it with everyone. I don't remember if we even talked about furries.
They probably don't like them and that's understandable. Most furries that tried to be friends with me on the internet could only talk about two things - video games and being gay. I have nothing against that, I'm just not interested and you don't need to remind me that you're gay every 5 seconds.

I'm fairly open about it, I don't go out of my way to tell people usually but it tends to come up every once in a while, especially when I'm planning on going to a con or somesuch. I have yet to have a friend who reacted negatively to it, most of them are either indifferent or super fascinated and have lots of questions. One of my closer friends even wanted to see the smut, hue.

Most of my friends are pretty okay with my furry interests. Once they got that it wasn't a sexual thing and that I just enjoyed the fun with being something else. One of them has even began to create their own fursona.

I have a very small group of IRL friends, but from what I've seen one of them is apart of the fandom and the rest are largely indifferent. Though they do indulge in some aspects of the fandom that will go un-named for the time being. And that's sorta been the way it's always been, at the very least in the small time that I have known them.

Every single friend I have is fully aware of my involvement in the fandom and are either passively indifferent to it or partake to some degree - most of them are furries or "furry-adjacent." I don't make an effort to hide it from strangers either. I've got two con badges clipped to a strap on my bag and my phone lockscreen is usually my fursona. It's as obvious as it can be without being obnoxious, to anyone who catches a glimpse at the right angle. I've never gotten crap for it from strangers before. Just cases of my parents flip flopping between the idea that furry art isn't real art/that I don't deserve to be paid for it and feeling entitled to free logos or paintings of wolves and lions because they "know a guy who would like it."

The people I mentioned it to always seemed pretty indifferent to it for the most part, even if they think it's kinda weird they figure it's just not their thing and thus, not their business. I'm pretty thankful for that. I guess New York is just super furry-neutral, haha

I have one friend who's genuinely a furry, I haven't told anyone else.

Furries are very much unheard of here. Only those who venture outside Facebook have even heard about it (or so I'm guessing, anyway. It's rare the the subject ever gets mentioned).

From what I did find out about IRL friends and how they see it, they seem to view furries as being the stereotypical furry porn enthusiasts and little else.

I've mentioned it here and there. Either the reaction is like what is that, oh interesting or they are like ok lol.
