I’d like to make a fursuit soon, but I have no idea what species it should be. Any recommendations for a first suit?

I would just try making a fox or a wolf for your first suit.
There's a lot of foxes and wolves in the fandom, so there should be lots of videos on how to make fox or wolf fursuits.

Depends on what you want. Fursuits are pretty expensive so make something you actually like, unless you're down to drop that kind of big cash again in the future. Your bio-thingy says cat so why not try a feline?
