« on: April 01, 2008, 08:18:31 PM »

But I cant! I dont even have an idea on how to start!
I need your help everyfur. Where to start?
They dont know what the fandom is...Itll be awkward for me to just walk up to them and say...(Their not biophobes or anything, phew)
Anyfur got any ideas or tips etc?

One of my really old friends Kinda just walked up to his parents and started a random conservation with them and when they we're occupied with one thing he just burst out and said he was Bi, they seemed to take it pretty well.

I personally just would never tell them.  :P

But I know you want to, so I'd suggest just getting it over quickly, somewhat like what Spots said about blurting it out. When you drag it out and get really uneasy about it, it can often increase the tension in the conversation and make things worse. Make sure you let your parents know you're more than willing to answer any questions they might have about the fandom so that they can get a good idea of what it is you're involved in.

do it in steps, and leave some time between them, and dont tell them about being bi-sexual and furry at the same time, but leave plenty of space between them... though i might not be a expert at telling things, i read this on some tutorial about telling things like this, i tried to find it again for you, but i didnt succeed

edit: oh, and plz dont call everyone everyfur, its confusing and its not exactly making non-furs like me feel welcome, kthx

I personally think your parents do not need to know about your love (or sexual) life.

Okay, I can understand why you'd want to tell your parents you're bisexual, especially if you think they're open minded about it.  But I'm not quite sure I understand why you're desperate to tell them you're a furry.  I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I just want to understand.

Personally, I would suggest keeping it under wraps for a while longer...  My parents still have no idea about the fandom, so in this case Dessum, ignorance is bliss.  Might wanna keep it to yourself for a little bit longer.

But it depends on what your family is like

I'm in the same boat I have not told anybody. I keep standing there but can't find the words. I know for a fact they are gonna mistake me for a zoophile and since secrets are non existant my entire living familiy tree is gonna think I wanna have sex with animals. It wouldn't matter if I try to explain it, the mistake is inevitable. I'm just sick of hiding it.

You are not alone I'm sure everyfur goes through this now or then

There's no point in telling them you're a "furry".
If you want them to know animal people are your thing think about it as if you were wanting to tell them racing or loud music was your thing.
I guessing you just want them to be a part of it with you or feel free to geek out about in front of them and know they'll understand it's
just you. Don't worry about that. You can't control what people think of you. You also have to consider this as a double edged sword.
What if they try to use it as a way to relate to you? (Like as a dorky sitcom parent would) lol

My parents were shocked enough finding out i was a fur... i suggest telling only one thing and depending on how they take that, tell them the other. your choice what you say first.
Wow have things changed...
