An outsider requests advice
« on: April 10, 2008, 03:13:26 AM »
First off, I come as a visitor with no interest in art or animals in genera.  Pardon my intrusion; I understand that the furry culture is a more open and tolerant one.  So in advance, thank you for you for reading and providing insight.  From what I understand, this is a tight community so maybe the subject of my frustration is currently a participating member of this forum.

I recently reconnected with a friend from high school after two years with little contact.  My friend an I are both twenty years old.  In school, he was an outcast because of his quote-unquote "poor" social skills and quite nature.  I was friends with him almost despite his dedication to schoolwork, reading, and study of computer skills way above my head.

After graduation I left to pursue my current career in the US Army.  My friend went on to study computers and business in college.  I respect him as a quietly motivated individual who is going places in life, and I'd like to stay in contact with the guy.  We may have different interests and aspirations, but we share a common circle of friends and he's helped me out more than once.

Recently he sent me a youtube clip of a Danish cartoon.  It was pretty embarrassingly depicting two animals singing and dancing, and in my mind, almost obviously ready to get it on.  My initial reaction changed from, "A cartoon?  Funny..." to "Are they...? Holy stinky diapers." fairly quickly.  Later he sent me a web cartoon I recognized as furry.  It wasn't sexually explicit but nonetheless it creeped me out.  After thinking about it, I remembered seeing him read fantasy books and online material that was probably furry in origin.  The last thing he sent was a drawing of a humanoid female fox with a more or less full rack.  I appreciate the humor of the offering, but beyond that....I'd actually like to erase it from my memory now.

I'd like to think I am more understanding and have a stronger stomach than most people.  My training as a soldier and in emergency trauma medicine seem to attest to that.  I grew up watching Disney and humanoid animals don't bother me...but this furry stuff often crosses into territory that doesn't sit well with me.  So I'm in conflict.

On one hand, none of this really matters.  Friendship is friendship, and I've come to terms with having gay friends, atheist friends, Mormon friends, cold hearted killer friends...you name it.  But almost every email my friend sends me involves some sort of furry ********** and he doesn't seem to understand when I hint or outright tell him that it creeps me the yiff out.  The more I see the more my imagination runs wild with it, and if he is THIS into it, does all the sexual stuff follow?

Like I said, for all I know he could be a member of this forum.  In any case, I'd like some insight.

Watch your language. Please read all the rules before you make anymore posts.

It's just how he is. Tell him to stop sending you the stuff if you don't want to see it.

By the way: We don't let explicit pictures on this forum unless you can prove that you're over eighteen and then you might be allowed into the adult section of the forum (which is pretty much useless as I hear it).
Adult content is only allowed in the Access pass only nonpublic boards.
Those boards are only accessible to members with the IMVU access pass.

I agree with Jesse. But not all furs are into sexually explicit things. It all depends on the person and their preferences. They may be into that stuff.. And may actually participate in.. Things. But, don't think that all furs are crazy nymphos.

OMG, u should be happy that he share with you such "embarrassing" things... If you can't stand him for being happy, then find for him some girlfriend...
Probably a provocation...

Try http://furry.wikia.com/wiki/WikiFur_Furry_Central For a much more useful knowledge base.
Keep in mind that the "furry fandom" is just a fan base constructed around an affinity for the characters.
Despite whatever nonconstructive hearsay or media outlet has to say "furries" are just real people
who have the same amount of depth to them as anyone else. Some people may not be able to see
very far into a person at first glance and others just have a really bad habit of saturating their outer
personality layers with taboo subject matter. Some just aren't experienced enough to know how
much or what to let people see. You mentioned the person's social skills as being less than gregarious.
Some times people can overshoot certain boundaries when attempting social tasks that
aren't exactly natural to them.

What is a Nymphos

A nympho is a sex-addict.

Oh ok. I thought it might of meant something else.

I don't think because his friend shows him those kinds of pictures that hes a sex addict. Maybe his friend has nobody to share it with and feels he can reach out to him.

All in all I say if it bothers you, ask him to stop. Surely as a friend he can respect your own personal preferances.

just ask him to stop, straight out and simple, its not like you're asking him to sell his dog or something.. i'd do the same if i where to get yiff in my inbox every day, no doubt, its the easiest and most effective way.

I've read over your entire post several times, and something's always jumped out at these things.

In everything he's sent you, you seem to be the one bringing sexuality into it.

"depicting two animals singing and dancing, and in my mind, almost obviously ready to get it on"

"It wasn't sexually explicit but nonetheless it creeped me out."

And as for the anthro fox with boobs... girls have boobs, a girl humanoid fox is going to have boobs.  Was she clothed?  Were they sexually detailed?

Not every furry is in the fandom for sexually explicit material, despite what you may have been told.  You can stop assuming your friend's some pervert just because he likes anthro art.
