My fursona is really much myself, the only difference being the appearance (I am actually not that hairy...). Because this is actually how I see fursonas : another way to represents yourself, your "animal-yourself", a way to picture yourself with another appearance, but with the same main characteristics (mostly for non-appearance characteristics).
My characters who aren't me are, well, characters. If they have a different name/gender/personality/background etc then they are pretty much characters to me, not fursonas.
