Well... I don't really think that you're scared of being yourself, you're scared of other peoples reaction of it. It's never easy to try to explain things like this, but there are just some things that you are going to have to face sooner or later. It's natural to be scared of other peoples reactions to certain things, which makes it even harder to open up to other people who doesn't have that in common with you. Like me for example, I've had a really hard time telling other people IRL that I'm gay, and the time it takes for the information to sink into the person you've told it to can be really nerve wrecking. It's never easy, but sometimes it really pays off and makes things easier for you.
Although I do not know your parents, I just hope that they can be tolerable of what you really are if you either tell them about yourself, or they happen to stumble upon it by mistake.
