So is anyone in a marching band?
« on: September 03, 2008, 10:44:39 PM »
Mainly pertains to those still in high school or if they march in college.
I march for the Canyon High School marching band in New Braunfels Texas. I play the trumpet and I'm going to learn how to play the saxophone soon.

Wow, Canyon? Back in high school, which was onyl last year, I was down at Clear Brook in Houston... I did alto sax in marching band. Freshman year we were only 10th in the region, and we jumped from that to 17th at Grand Nationals ^.^ Marching band rules!

OMG A REPLY!!!

Sweetness! We got straight ones in UIL marching this year. Our show was The Lord of the Rings by Johan De Meij. It was awesome! Unfortunately, my marching season is over on Friday... T.T

Aww.... My senior year our show was Turbine by John Mackey, and it was... Rediculous >.> For the closer the tempo was around 195 BPM, so we were practically running XP

My Sophomore year, we played Scheherazade. It was an amazing show. But my all time favorite was my freshman year. We played the music of Dimitri Shashtakovich. We played Symphony 10 mvt. 2, fire of eternal glory and festive overture. In it, we had a full band jazz run and a full band push, where we all lined up next to each other in a straight line and slowly marched forward at a certain part in the music.

I wasn't exactly in marching band.
But in Wind Ensemble (the best band at the school, aside from the jazz band), we played the music the marchers played for the season.
We had an entire show of Queen.
And our Halloween show consisted of Thriller, Ghostbusters, and THE FREAKIN' TIME WARP :D
I was so excited.
I play Bari Sax.
You say that like it's a bad thing ;)

Gawd, don't get me started on gravity. >:3

Agreed, lol.
My high school just got a brand new bari.
And I'm the only one at the school that gets to play it.
I'm pretty psyched.

Awesome... I'm just borrowing the college's bari right now... I just barely was able to afford an oboe for myself, since that's my main instrument.

I was last year, but not this year. Which sucks, because this year they got to play at the BCS bowl at halftime down in Florida D:

I play baritone sax, which sucks to lug around when it's about half my size XD

Long, long ago... In a world not to different from your own...

I, too, was in high school marching band. I wanted badly to be a music major. I learned most instruments, my best ones being the French Horn, Trumpet, and my personal favorite, the Bari Sax for Jazz. Instruments I failed to pick up well were the trombone and flute.

One time, for a field show, I got the whole bass section to do a kick line for "Build Me Up Buttercup". We got in a little trouble for that one, since it wasn't part of the show. I was the naughtiest Band Prez ever (I know, nerd, right?)
