My ex-girlfriend was a furry. I didn't know for the entire first year of our relationship. Later on she really got me into it and before I knew it I had my own fursona and was going with her to fur meets.

Good question. I suppose when I was young, I used to like Sonic the Hedgehog, Bucky O'Hare, Tiny Toons Adventures and Biker Mice From Mars. Sonic the Hedgehog was probably the biggest influence for me and he was my childhood hero, also the Sonic SatAM cartoon was probably the trigger point for me of becoming a furry because I used to fancy Princess Sally.

Plus I love animals, they are so fascinating.

I've pretty much always been a furry. I've always loved movies, video games, and television shows with anthro animals. My favorite movies were always Balto, Fox and the hound, all dogs go to heaven, etc.

Around about.. Gosh, 7 years ago, now? I found a sudden liking for characters of an anthropomorphic nature, particularly dragons. I eventually found other individuals with the same feeling, and got introduced to the fandom through it's music and artwork. It's only developed from there, I suppose.


I've gone through about three or four fursonas now, over that time, and I've sort of drifted in and out of the fandom, but I've always been around it, regardless.

In a way I don't know how I really became a furry. To be honest still rather new.  I guess it could start all the way in high school freshman year typically speaking mind you that was like 10 years ago.


One of my friends that I hung out with all the time liked to draw anthropologic animals and I instanlty feel in love with it. I never really did ask him what it was just at I thought it was cool and fell in love with it. Up to now I never really thought of it until just a week ago I got to reading on a post on my Facebook about furry fandom. I looked into it and was like oh so that's what it's about.


I then decided I wanted to figure out my fursona and discovered that's its a personality hiding in another personality. Inside I'm this shy person or being and for my love of dogs and connection with them, my loyalty and friendship, and wanting what's close to me to not be taken I was like yup there it is. I found a picture on the Internet and was like instant connection. It was like that is the missing hole inside of me. The other half that I never knew existed in me.


So will leave it at that. Long enough I suppose.

I am really enjoying reading all of these. 

It stared for me at a very young age (now that I have some perspective on the matter). When I was really young (8 or something) I used to roll up a towel and tuck it into my pants, pretending it was a tail and that I was a Wolf. Then when I played the SNES, I really, really loved Starfox! He was my first exposure to anthropomorphic characters and I thought he was so cool! But it wasn't until high school / college that I began looking more into the art (I saw some furry and anthropomorphic art and fell in love right away, and continued to seek more). It appealed to my personality so much and so I continued to build a fursona around a side of me that I never really expressed in public.

Through the phenomenon the idea of fursuiting appealed to me... although I have neither made or had a fursuit made... but one day I really hope to have one to represent me and to take to conventions. In the meantime I will settle with a tail! 

I moved to the USA and found there was no better place to by myself, so here I am. I hope to meet others in time, and visit some conventions.

man everyone has such amazing stories and then there's me xD
all my life I've had this admiration for animals (I've also always had a sort of fascination with dragons...) and I always used to play with my sister things, like in our pool we'd pretend to be sea animals and be desert animals in the ferns of our big ol' backyard. i also used to only watch movies if it featured talking animals (LOL). of course, when we moved out of that house she'd kind of moved on but I had wanted to continue to do this and then, I discovered roleplaying! whoa!
I actually had started a blog to keep track of little roleplay stories I was into (50% were warrior cats based) and one day while browsing through blogs i'd discovered a kid's site where you could play as different animals. I joined it and ended up meeting some pretty mazing people (some of which are still big parts of my life). I remember one day I mentioned wanting to expand my horizons and a friend of mine had introduced me to "wolfhome". I ended up becoming very active in the community throughout the years I was a part of it. throughout my time there I gradually learned more and more about the furry community and realized that I had actually been in it for awhile without knowing realizing it! (I actually had had a character I used very often, you could say she was the first fursona I had. I just kind of thought I was weird since I had an attachment to this character who was originally used for just roleplaying but then I began drawing her and such). since then I've looked more and more into the community, and when I'm able to I plan on going to cons and getting a fursuit for my fursona, Alkei. History lesson: since as long as i can remember ive always been drawn to anthro animals. Being brought up on Disney and Studio Ghibli,  i can see why. If there was a film or game with a talking animal of some kind, it would instantly be my favourite character. Red XIII from final fantasy VII, Morro from princess mononoke  to name Some. Few years later i was watching a show, there was a scene involving furries doing....questionable things to each other. I loled so much i went on the Internet to see if it was true. Although i found the darkside, i also found a lot of positive things which got me curious. Now, here i am

I can't remember when the absolute first time I started to get into it, but I do remember watching movies like "Space Jam" and Lola Bunny was so hot! I started getting into Anthropomorphics. One thing lead to another and I fantasized of (don't judge me) of being with Lola Bunny (in that way) I later found "those" sites, you know the ones) and I liked it. A friend of mine is into that as well and he showed me more of those sites and my fascination got bigger and bigger. I like Anthropomorphic Foxes the best because of what I've seen (you know) so I wanted to become a Anthropomorphic Fox myself just so I could dream of dating other [/size]Anthropomorphic Foxes. That's how it started and I'm loving it.

For about a week or so, I've been thinking a lot about the fandom for no discernible reason. So I looked around, saw its reason for existing, et cetera, et cetera, and then boom, I'm addicted to anthros. I have a tab of this and Housepets always open on my computer.
