When I was in 7th grade (yeah, yeah, I know) I saw it online and because I didn't really have any sort of internet presence then like I do now, I didn't really know where to start. Hell, I didn't even know what a fursona was. All I knew was I liked fursuits, and I liked the art, and I wanted to be a furry.
Then, because I was a 7th grader and had the attention span of a concussed goldfish, I just sort of forgot about it.
Skip forward to 9th grade, where I was technically part of "that group" of kids (weeaboos, mostly) mainly because I had nowhere else to go. I figured out how to do a couple google searches and landed on furaffinity and other sites like that, and got pretty much hooked considering I didn't really talk to anyone in real life.
Ironically, I think a lot of my experiences in being on the same IRC channel for 4 years actually helped me a lot with my social skills, which is why I have a busy enough social life now to the point that it's almost stressful. (Also, most of my r/l friends are furries, although we didn't meet on that basis.)
Which I guess explains how I got into being and why I continue to be a furry.
