How did YOU become furry? =)

I got bored and looked for the forums... I had known I was a furry for a while... I also wish I had enough money to buy a fursuit...

I was lucky enough to be pretty much raised in it. My family--my mom, my dad, my siblings--we're all furries, and we've always shared this part of our lives together. It definitely makes things more comfortable, and I've always loved and appreciated it. I think I would have found it on my own anyway though. It's just such a big part of my identity, and it always will be

Kinda funny, I became a furry by watchin a furry hate video. I decided to look a furry up after I saw the video..

Okay, here goes nothing..

I began writing at a very young age, about 14 or 15. My first stories were about people living in remote areas like the rain forest who were trying to get closer to nature and animals. As i grew so did my interests in many different animals, and I almost went to Veterinarian school. I found myself obsessed with this image in my head of a tall anthropomorphic lion who was wearing a doctors lab coat, blue jeans, and dark boots.

I personified this character in a short story called "Anthro?" where his name was Hijiku. The name just came to me, out of nowhere. I continued writing until I had over 300 pages of random short stories which I am currently collecting into one big book, I just could not stop writing. As the days and the story progressed, I found myself dreaming about being the character, and even found myself falling into his mannerisms in real life and online. I knew that there was a connection between Hijiku and myself, so I began searching online for answers.

Many things came to me through Google, words like "Otherkin". However, two months ago, the word Furry found it's way into my browser, and immediately I knew that I wanted to be a part of this ever-expanding community. I wanted to meet others that shared my.. *blushes* ...obsession.

And thus, I came to this site.

In my primary school years i like playing and pretending to be superheros and what not, and became fascinated at transformation, mostly into animals. It got me thinking what it would be like to be one but i never really thought about it much. Then when i became seriosly addicted to pokemon (about...a year ago?) i looked up some art and eventually found anthro pics. I looked it up more and more and found out its the furry community. I liked it and continue to enjoy the awesome trend.
I also like animals. 
So i just sorta became one naturally you could say. When i think about it, even when i was little i showed signs of becoming a furry.

To tell you the truth, at first I thought it would be silly. I thought I would not like anthro-animals. It seemed childish. Even going through a anti-fur phase. But That I met a furry on the website youtube. She was so awesome and fun! Than for her I gave the furry fandom a try. When I joined the furry fandom, youtube was going through its youtube furry war ( http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/YouTube_Furry_War ) So when I was a furry, I took a ton of hate from trolls, and through all that hate mY PRIDE GREW STRONGER. I added all the furs i could find on youtube, every single one was so kind and loving! I felt like they were family. I felt so loved. But than 2 years later, a troll i recently made quit, hacked my youtube and changed my password. After that I did not want to go through everything again. So I guess you could say i left the fandom. Ever sense I felt like something was missing. I was not enjoying life as much. I was getting depressed, I even started to cut myself while crying. Well about 8 months I got my password back for youtube. Sadly many of my old furfriends quit during the war. But many old friends were still on , Right now I am starting to get into role-play, also plan on getting a fursuit, And am making new friends on youtube I feel a hole in my life is now patched.  Thank you for reading my story!

hahahahha, im actually a relatively new furry, Im 15 and i discovered the fandom about a year ago, but until a few months back i just saw them as more people there were in the world. I was ( and still am) a big webcomic reader, so there being so many furry comics I was bound to stumble upon one. I did. My first furry comic was "Better Days" written by Jay Naylor. It remains my favorite webcomic. from there on I looked into the fandom further to see what furries were all about. I liked the idea

  while i question that anyone will ever read my post ... i became a furry oh nice topic by the way !! I became a furry when yes i was 7 when i was nine all the time i always had a love for wolves and my curiosty aways has had it out for me anyways i decided to  look more into furrys still not knowing what yiff,murr and other terms were i was happy as could be to see these beautiful drawings and things so i about 10 i bought my first furry costume i didn't use till i was 13 to go to a rave omg that was fun Any way and 14 was the age i hit TRUE FURRY so ever since then... _ kiba

I guess, rethinking it... I've probably been a furry for longer than I remember... I've always liked talking animals and 'dressed up'  animals and things like that... It wasn't until last year or so that I found out what anthro was... And also began to draw anime wolves... Which got me interested in animating and digital art... And ever since I can remember I've been coming up with crazy stories about my stuffed animals... Giving them histories... And sometimes the ability to talk... And  after showing evern more interest in animals, my mom told me that I've loved dogs since I was two years old...

Always loved Walt Disney's Robin Hood and I've been a big fan of Redwall. Once in a zoo I followed a wolf back and forth while it paced for over an hour (I blame that wolf whenever my mom yells at me for pacing lol) Always sorta had a fascination with werewolves and such.

Basically I've been a furry as long as I can remember but never really knew it and in fact despised furries for a while. Then I forgot the fandom for a few years till I was reading xkcd recently and saw mention of them. So I googled "furry" and it came up with a bunch of stuff that overall sounded down right nasty. Then I found a link that took me to a website that was actually rather informative (guess what, the webpage was written by a furry) and decided to find out more. A dozen searches later it occurred to me that this was all sounding like something I would enjoy overall and after I got past the part of my brain saying "Everyone you know will hate you!!!!" I registered to the forum and here I am.

I played tons of Sonic, Starfox, and Crash Bandicoot as a kid. I thought the idea of anthropomorphic animals was the best idea in the world. Looking back on that, I'm not suprised I inched my way toward the fandom since.

Well since I was like maybe......4? 5? I always really loved sonic the hedgehog games, and drew the sonic characters alot (my favs were amy and knuckles, for whatever reason, i still dont even know why they're my favs 0-o)
And of course I loved the disney movies. And cats. I love cats.
My family always thought I was gonna work with animals some day (they still do), and I just might. Anyways since the time I was like 5, I've read lots and LOTS of manga (not all of it great for my age, I read Negima at age 8!)
Speaking of Negima, I would have to say that's what really got me interested in talking-animal characters, because up until that point, I thought that animals that talked and stuff in manga were virtually non-exsistent (save for Keroberos from cardcaptors. But he's not an animal. Just a mythical beast O_o. That counts though I think). I absolutely loved the......thing.....from negima. I still don't know what it is. Looks like a ferret though. And so I started looking at alot more manga, looking for cute characters like that. (beleive me I went through TONS of stuff. At the time, google was a mystery to me, so I just took what i could find ) I drew some of those characters (cause i love my fanart ^-^), and around the time I was 10, I started drawing Nekos. LOTS OF NEKOS! Nekos with yarn, Nekos with Fish, just as many Nekos as I could O_O. Looking back I gotta say I became furry when I took my neko drawings a step further and made a very basic sketch of Dante (my tiger anthro, drawn at age 11). From there I worked on alot of anthro stuff, and then for a time I though furry was.........baaaaaaad . (thank the internet drilling that into my skull). Then I looked into it and i'm like "Hey......this is the stuff that I Like. Cool."
And so I made a few friends on some games, and we talked alot. ALOT. one time I was chattin with this dude for 3 hours. Ah the things boredom can do. Then he brought up this site ^-^ And now I'm here
