The amazing thing about us furries is that we have grown such thick skin against indifference by others. We have been able to tolerate these haters for so long by just not giving a care about what they think about us. And we have thrived as a community till this day. =)


It also takes a huge amount of ego whooping and courage to reveal ourselves for who we really are and standing by our preferences and opinions as human beings/furries. The world would be a much more better place to live if there were more people who cultivated this mindset from the beginning about us.

Dude stop…you are going to really make me cry. We all should right speeches and give them to some one to say at a convention and be like "this is from fdf and they have a few words to say". That would be cool.

I looked up what a furry was after hearing it so many times...  It seemed to have matched what I considered myself to be.  The idea of it just intrigues me.  So, no, I don't have this great backstory or personal battle to become who I want to be, I just like the idea of being a furry.

How I became a furry has more to do with my personal journey in life than it has with just liking and wanting to emulate a cartoon character. I had to reject social norms as I morphed into a young transwoman before I could feel free in my own mind to enjoy things that I have grown an interest in.

Earlier in my life I had experimented a bit with my curiosity in the furry fandom through art and writing stories and enjoyed it. It was simply just a part of me that I never actively brought out into public view until recently. Because now who's going to tell me, "no you can't because it's wrong." I'm already wrong in the eyes of many and it feels right to me.

There's nothing stopping me from being what I am openly and thus, there's nothing stopping me now from being who I am openly too. I'm a furry and that's that. If I walk into a store wearing a collar or a tail, what will they laugh at? My body image or the expression of my personal interests? Exactly. I'm a free woman.

Well,

I have always been an animal lover, i can't remember a time in my life where i have not been around 1 to 3 animal family members (calling them pets doesn't do them right), specially dogs. so my love for animals is huge.

long after, around 2 years ago, i become a brony, and there i became friends with many people, including a large variety of furry friends, it became very fun to think of a life as something more than human, so it started with role-plays, just silly games with friends, but it ended up more serious.

Now i enjoy to portrait my self as a cute fuzzy bunny, cute and cuddly, but some times, is a hard choice between a dog and a bunny

Originally i have always loved animals and have always been interested in werewolves. and whenever I play games like skyrim I always tend to play one of the animal races like Kajhit or argonian. I never really thought of myself as a furry and I had always heard people say they were wierdos and that kind of thing but was randomly browsing the web and i kept seeing these awesome pieces of art which were furry's and i thought you know whats wrong with liking this kind of thing so i looked into the furry fandom a bit more, to find that it is an incredible thing full of amazingly nice people. and what i had heard people saying whether it be media or whatever. had no idea what they were talking about.
I then clicked and realised that ive always been a furry at heart.

So here I am.

And now I want a fursuit and to go to a fur-convention.

I always had a affinity for foxes. The Fox and The Hound was my favorite childhood show growing up. Over the years, I got into pokemon and had Eevee listed as my favorite pokemon. Ninetails is my second. I eventually joined Nintendo.com and went to the forum 'Nsider'. There, I made good friends, never RP'd and always talked pokemon.
 
When the site closed, I drew away from pokemon and saught out something else. TV shows, video games, movies... Even though there arnt many shows about such, foxes remained my favorite creatures. I took this and studied much about facts, folk lore and history behind the varrious species. Books and nature films seemed to dominate my life there for a couple of years.
 
I began to imagine myself as something more then a human. What if I had a tail like a fox? What if I had ears? Would I control them? How does this feel? These thoughts and questions eventually lead to the idea of inverting myself in RP as a fox furry. At the time though, I didnt want to RP, but search for pictures.
 
I began by searching for humanoid foxes. My search led me to a place... I dont remember where. A forum where foxes seemed to be the main idea behind the forum. I joined because I do like foxes. I didnt realize that the last post was 2 years ago. So When I introduced myself. A person with the SN; Taymor, told me how rare it is how new people joined, and how rarer it was he was on. I spent... I think, five days there, and was directed to a certain gaming/chat/rP site called 'World Azon' . . . A new door for me.
 
This site had what was called Anthros. Humanoid, almost every creature. Course. I began as a fox. Greeted heartily by the mods and was introduced to RP and the concept. I had finally became a fox, I really loved the site. In this site, foxes lives in their own country, had their own language [which was shared amoung several other races], and their own traditions. I learned everything about the anthro fox as I could. I even remember how to speak the fox langauge. [Yes there was a nerd who developed a full language]
 
After the site was hacked and crashed by some angry mod, I left, but kept my Anthro RP chara. I didnt find out the creature I was, was called furry until I went to XAT. Suddenly, I became a furry. I was resistant at first, claiming that I was RPing as an anthro. Eventually I accepted the term.
 
I still have my affinity for foxes. But I RP as many creatures now, all developed depending on the genre of RP. I found this site by a simple search " Furry forums ". Clicked the first link, compared it to other sites and decided this one was more intersting. I missed Forums, that is why I specifically searched for forums.

hmm, well, i guess it started for me when i got into startrek.
soon after that i began to be able to envission my self as... not human, and after reading on book, where the main characters were a feline species, i guess thats when it happened. after that i got into reading TwoKinds, and i soon got on omegle. after that i found the "furry" topic section, i got into roleplaying,, and.. so here i am.

I'd say it started in a time in which I can't remember. At that point, I was playing games like Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank and I thought that those games were totally awesome. Some time later I got an interest in anime and thought that the Nekos were really cool, too. I tried to look them up, but I didn't know what they were called so I searched "cat girls". Sad to say, I came to some "unfavorable" results. When I reached 8th grade, I took an intrest into writing, and wrote books (clean books I might add) that included this Inumimi girl. Again, at the time I had no idea about their official names. I was a clueless hero... Anyway, I showed it to a friend of mine and he claimed that she was a furry. I had no clue what he was saying, of course, so I searched for myself. Thankfully, I searched Wikipedia and found out. At first is was a bit dissuaded from it from hearing about the whole "yiff" acts, but after reading Housepets, I quickly grew interested in this culture and thought the clean art was really cool! And now, by some lucky encounter, (not really, I literally search for "Furry Forums") here I am now!

Alright as weird as this sounds it's true. We all know him and his exploits " the big bad wolf" he and I just always seemed to be one in the same but as a little kid I thought I was the big bad wolf I was the tallest kid in catholic school and I always got into trouble. Later in life I would watch shows like tailspin and just think how cool it would be to be anthro and the rest is history.

[ahem] fighting the norm? There is no norm my dear friend, the "norm" is a guide line that says:  "this is normal, this is not."   And that guide line is not an updated guide line.  (Because no one wants to change it.). 

Have you told your sister that your one of us?  (I dont like using the word furry. Don't know why either.)
