Well I've always been an "animal person" of sorts, I won't go too much into that, though.
I believe I discovered the furry fandom when I was quite a bit more younger through feral, sparkledog and chibi anthro artists on deviantArt (of popular artists: atomicfishbowl (now apparently known as Falvie), Tamberella (aka SnowAro), TaniDaReal and silverfox5213), certainly I found an interest in how people had fursonas online and I felt connected but at the same time I didn't think I could draw and I couldn't and it put me off the whole thing for a while. After my parents recommended for me to take up new hobbies a while ago I said I'd take up drawing and showed them something that was simple (not a character) but they liked it a lot. In this next year I will be hopefully attending art class and learning to draw on paper and I am also going to be making digital art once I have a tablet. After that I decided to actually participate in the furry community instead of just exploring and reading all about it. I pretty much learnt a lot about the history of the furry fandom, it's issues (which I'm glad to be conscious of, so I can avoid any misunderstandings), what it means to different people and the variation in the content. From it's evolution as a post-funny animal / sci-fi comic fandom offshoot to a fandom appealing to those who were introduced to the personification of animals via the mainstream (Disney films, Redwall, TV cartoons, etc - of which to some degree influenced me, too) with its base striving on either identity with creativity or escaping the human world with art and roleplay. Nowadays I spend quite sometime browsing for furry art on deviantArt and other sites such as Weasyl and FA and roleplaying, etc. I usually feel more comfortably being quite more on the feral end than anthro, though I love playing semi-anthro (looking more so feral when on four legs, but capable of walking upright like most anthros do), as well - for my preference I often dodged the furry community as much as I like anthros in art but now I'm more comfortable I've opened myself up to the more anthro side of things, as well. Once I'm good enough I hope to draw furry art and also other kinds of art (I'm beginning to find art as very meditative since I suffer a lot of anxiety). Though, right now my socialising is just in talking to people I know are furries and won't bite my head off for demonstrating my "animal-person" tendencies on the internet. I don't get on well with those who don't share my interests and are rude or bullyish, thankfully this site doesn't seem to have any of that, really. I'm thankful I've found such a welcoming, decently-mannered, accepting, friendly online community
