How did YOU become furry? =)

i personally found it easier to not tell any family that way i wouldnt have to go through the trouble of explaining things :p but if u really wanna tell them maybe have them read the FAQ part that says 'what is a furry' good luck

I'd knew about it all for a while and liked it, never thought of it too much. Until a week or so ago I got my old PS3 out and played with old friends, one was now obviously a furry (I didn't know what a furry was last time I played on PS3), in the game (LittleBigPlanet) he had created a LOT of furry art . So I asked him if he was one, he got all offensive until I told him I'm not sure if I'm one too. So that went well. Now recently I've been thinking about it and found myself passionate (not sexually) about it. Found myself being a fox, not sure what kind yet though.... 

But I seriously don't know how to tell my parents, they don't even know a Furry is ! My brother will be easier to tell, he's open minded, he thinks it's weird but won't judge overly .

Good luck. I myself am also planning on telling my parents, mainly as I wish to go to the NZ con and well they will want to know what it is about.


But yea. As to keep this more on topic, I thought back and found that there was more to how I became one than I thought. It also comes from my reading of a couple of online web stories, and that I was originally going to write a fan story for one of them, but after thought I changed it to my own story.

When I was 2 I was addicted to Sonic and always wanted to be tails. Later I discovered Sly Cooper the Raccoon and was addicted to that. Then it was StarFox. I thought I just had emotional ties to the video games but I later found out on July 4th 2012 that It was the characters not the video games. I heard about other furries while listening to the RoosterTeeth podcast.

A few moths ago we got a school assignment. We had to draw our perfect partner.
So I did that and I made a girl with two ears and a tail. After that I hear the word “furry” from some classmates. (Now I'm famous about linking furrys).

Hmmm... growing up I always had an affinity for animals more than people. During our games of make believe and childhood games, I would always pretend to be some sort of animal. Usually a feline, or a horse. Once in awhile a fox. x3 I loved games and movies with anthros.


Fast forward to the age 16-17 I began to enjoy online chatting and always acted out feline characteristics, and my RP characters were either anthros, or shape shifters. I developed additional fursonas, a cow, a wolf, a male feline, a dragon, and my latest is a MLP OC.


I was slow to take to my furrieness offline due to family and my career, but eventually I became comfortable with wearing ears and tail in public, mewling, the usual. And with my mate beside me I am much more at peace with being little ol kitteh me! n_n

It was in grade 8 that I discovered the fandom. If it weren't for school, I wouldn't have discovered the fandom or even be here now. In grade 8 social studies, we were to pick a group/fandom etc and do research on it. Well, I found a list of things on wikipedia, and I saw Furry fandom! I thought the name was interesting, so I clicked it, and you know how.... horrible the wiki page is for the fandom. ._. Anyways, I saw all the bull on there, but thought that there must be more to the fandom than this crap this page is telling me. But, at this time I was weary to search more on the fandom at school because of what I had saw... So, after I finished the project and presented it to the class, I did more research at home. I found the fandom very interesting, and wanted to become a furry/scalie myself! So I started to work on my 'sona. c:

My original 'sona was a sea dragoness that was an ugly cyan and ORANGE combo. wut. It was... gross. But now I've improved a lot in my artsyness. My 'sona is drastically different now, but it's all good.


And that is how I became a furry!




School was useful for once! (I'm kidding, I actually like school. ;w; Except stupid kids there. >.-.>)

Weird story actually it started around a month ago when I googled left 4 dead on google images I was looking through them and found a left fur dead pic. I thought I was cool so I showed my friends and one of them told me that it was furry art. So I got interested in it and googled it and that's how I became the president...... I mean a furry .

I've been totally obsessed with cats, wolves, foxes, and dragons my whole life. I played games like StarFox64, Ratchet and Clank... but that wasn't what really DID IT. I got into fanfiction when I was a big Naruto fan, though I started disliking it about 100 episodes into Shippuden. Anyway, I was a big Kiba fan because of his animalistic nature. Months later, after I'd stopped reading fanfics, I saw an episode of SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron on the channel Boomerang. I went online, watched EVERY episode, and went back into fanfiction.  I made a great friend in the SK fandom and joined a forum. My original sona wasn't even a sona in name, more like a self to inject into that universe. However, one of the forum's mods had a quote in his signature that I assumed was from a song, so I googled it in curiosity, and found "The Furry Song 2009" by Kurrel the Raven. I listened closely, thought it was interesting, and suddenly found myself with accounts on anthrocon.org, sofurry.com, and a couple other sites. I got pulled in fast, since I'd been a furry and therian in everything but name ever since I was born.

I loved animals ever since I was a kid. Between the ages of 2 and 4 I was convinced that I was some type of dog. I've had over 16 pets in my 15 years of life, though only 3 atm. 1 Cat, 1 Jack Russell and 1 Carpet Python. This of course does not include my bee collection in Kindergarten, my ant collection in yr 2, my spider collection in yr 4 or my continuing lizard collection. In yr 5 I discovered anthros from a Sly Cooper game ad on TV, about a year later I found the game and became obsessed with it until High school.  In yr 8 (First yr of HS in AUS), I was browsing the net and began learning about furries. 6 monthes after that I was calling myself a closet furry.

Ever since I as young I have a weird bond with animals. Dogs, cats, hamsters but especially our hoofed friends. I've always loved  horses. Especially the stockier built breeds. I played games where we were animals and as everyone grew up, I never stopped wanting to play. When I started to get older I started to draw anthro creatures but not a fursona. Recently, I was working on a request for a Clydesdale Stallion. He was the most beautiful thing I'd drawn. Then I stumbled across a photo of a palomino Gypsy Vanner mare, my heart floated, I started messing around with positions and then I decided she'd be a good anthro. After messing around for a while, She was perfect. I felt  real attachment to this beautiful mare. She looked my age, her eyes had my shine and how she held her self mimicked me. She was me.


I'd always been interested in the furry fandom, but only recently got involved and now, I feel amazing, I feel like this is the real me! and I love it!

I always felt different than most people ever since i was young. I loved animals, and i loved caring for them and would get attached to them very quickly since i was young. I never knew anything about furries until i was in high school, i went to a pretty out of the norm school. I saw furries there and was fed false information at first and kind of thought it was weird. After we had a renaissance festival at our school and i had purchased a red fox tail, i was in love. i loved wearing it even if i got ridiculed by others, it felt so right to me like a part of me. after a while i stopped wearing it cuz i was embarrassed but i still randomly wear it not in college. The day i got my name though wasnt until college when i met my best friend/ master Reaper, a cat neko, he claimed me as his pet and called me Shadow fox because of my for tails. and thats my story! ^w^

Interesting story Soph, that DOES sound pretty unique.

My story is.... well...I was always a big fan of Sonic the Hedgehog. I got into spriting at a very early age (around 9-ish), and made Sonic the Hedgehog sprite comics all the time in my 9-12 years, and even beyond that. I made all kinds of sprite comics even had my own little series called Eggman Adventures. I made comics of Sonic, Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, all kinds of things. I learned about it by reading PsyGuy comics (IKR) and saw that he had his own little self-insert character...and I decided that I wanted to have my own little character. But me being 9, I wasn't the most sprite-savvy. I stumbled upon a glicthed sprite of Sonic, him being purple and having yellow shoes. I decided, "Why not!!!" and used it. Two years ater, I decided to take it a step further, and make it my own. I took a spritesheet of Sonic from Sonic 3, and having more sprite experience by now touched the sprites up. I made him purple, gave him a black shirt, gave him jeans, and made his shoes silver with a blue streak, and also gave him light green eyes.

It was.....perfect!!(IMO) I loved this little creation of mine, I felt attached to it and it felt so me......I later named him Mike, and drew all kinds of custom sprites for him and even his signature weapons (An Emerald sword and a Sapphire sword).

I later learned that this wasn't and uncommon thing, and found that people made all kinds of Sonic Characters form cats to dogs to foxes to hedgies. I got involved into that, and I absolutely loves anthros. Years after that, I learned of the furry fandom, and got involved into it.

So really...you could say I was a furry before I even knew what a furry was!

My story will probably be a lot different from anyone else's.
When I was young, I loved dogs. Like most children, I would pretend to be one, run around the house..When I was 10, I joined an online virtual world for all ages. On this site you could get "avatars", each avatar meant you could change your current form to another. Everyone started off as a human. Avatars were VERY rare and very expensive, up to 200,000 per avatar, depending on which it was.
I later gained a dog avatar, which looked like this:

In this screenshot everyone had the angry expression on, I don't know why...and there's a robot on the end. ignore that.
The smaller dogs were called "Puff mini" avatars, and the bigger ones were "Puff bigheads"
I had a puff mini, and I was ALWAYS black and green. In early 2008 I had an online best friend on this website, who I lost contact with for about a year. We've now reunited, and on the website, when I met her again- she had been drawing people's avatars.
I asked her to draw mine, and here it is:

I asked to see some of her other draws and she linked me to her deviantART, from there I found out about the animation side of furry-ness. My "avatar" soon became my fursona, my character, and how I'd appear on every website. A black and green dog. And without realizing, I became a furry. Once I was a little more "advanced" in the furry world, I changed her markings, what she looked like, so on and so forth. She didn't have any markings before and there's animations of my fursona, Sopherz on youtube. Sopherz was my nickname, and is my nickname. Since MY avatar and I became my own fursona, she's named after me. She's the only one I'll ever have, and she really does, represent me 

 
Im actually not that different from you. Most of my furryness was projected through online games, chats, images and comics. I only told the short version but theres a lot longer of a story to be told with me because i recently came out of a really bad situation that lasted for about 12 years.

Well, i have always loved dogs, especially huskies, German shepards and wolves but they weren't the reason why i became a furry. It happened recently a couple of months ago... I was very, very bored and i decided to watch some movies, then i ended up watching the pokemon movie about lucario and after that i just couldn't stop thinking about him (lucario) and i became obssesed with him drawing him, writting stories about him, etc. Then one day a real strange thing happened. I found a story on google linked to a furry site and i enter and there my furry self was born but like many i started with the dirty side, which word starts with the letter y... and now i'm here as Axel.

About a year ago a certain friend of mine got me really deep into anime. After awhile, I noticed that some of the characters were based off of animals. That got me thinking. I started to realize that I had taken on some fox like animal characteristics. Another close friend started calling me a furry and of course I had no idea what that was. So he told me. I was a little shocked at first taking in the new information. So for that year I thought about what it would be like to be a fox furry. It wasn't only til a few weeks ago that I fully became a furry. Good discussion topic btw

I think I've been a furry my whole life. I can remember when I was just getting into girls id dream more often of being "with" female chars like ms brigs from swat kats then actual women. I didn't turely realize what I was intill my freashman year of highschool when I found [removed] and practicaly fell in love with the art style. (Not so much the sexness of it but more so the humanoid animals part. Except for anything dealing with the fox champaign.) I've always really been into foxs so when I found out what I was really into that's how Kit came to be. Then a few yeas ago I had a friend who went to a furcon who when he came back told me that in the furry world id be a fox. That made me real happy. He's a ferret by the way.
