Chapter Ten: A Trap! A Friend Is Lost!
The four furs ran towards the soldiers, and soon the sound of steel hitting steel filled the air, scaring birds away. Foxx fought against two soldiers, taking them down almost at the same time. Wolf ran through the soldiers, hitting their legs as he ran, making them fall. Comet fought with fluid movements, dodging the soldier’s attacks and counter-attacking. Keith grinned as he fought the soldiers, using some magic now and then.
Some minutes later, Foxx was surrounded by soldiers. He looked around.
"Wolf!" Foxx shouted, lifting his left paw "Rain, I summon thee!"
When he finished talking, it started to rain heavily, but only over all the nearby soldiers. Foxx, Wolf, Keith and Comet were dry.
"What do you want to do? Drown us?" one of the soldiers mocked. Foxx grinned and looked at Wolf, nodding "Careful, Comet." he warned.
Wolf looked at Foxx and smiled, lifting his left paw.
"Thunder, come forth!" he shouted, pointing at the wet ground under the soldiers, and a giant thunderbolt hit that place. Keith kept the remaining soldiers away, so they couldn’t hurt Foxx or Wolf. Comet put his paw over his eyes, because of the lighting, and watched as the soldiers screamed in pain while the electricity ran through the water on the ground and their wet bodies, making them fall unconscious. Comet looked at Foxx and Wolf as they lowered their paws, the rain subsiding.
"Wow… you guys…" he started, amazed, and looked at the soldiers "Are they…?"
Wolf shook his head.
"No, they’re just unconscious." He told Comet "We still have some left." He continued, looking at the soldiers that Keith was keeping away.
Foxx walked over to Wolf and Comet.
"Thanks for the help, Wolf." He said, smiling.
Wolf smiled back, getting his sword ready. "It’s ok." Then he ran towards Keith to help him.
Foxx looked as Wolf started fighting again and turned to Comet.
"Coming?" he asked.
"I don’t think we should leave them like this…" Comet commented, looking at the unconscious soldiers and lifting his left paw "Mother Nature, I ask for your aid." He said. Foxx watched in wonder as vines started to grow, wrapping themselves around the soldiers so they couldn’t escape. Comet looked at his work and smirked. "That should keep them in their place."
"Wow…" was the only thing Foxx could say. He shook his head slightly and looked back. "Come on, we have to help them." He said, and started to run towards the soldiers. Comet followed him.
Keith and Wolf were taking soldiers down, not killing them. Foxx and Comet ran through the soldiers, cutting their legs with their swords. They stopped and looked around. There were only some soldiers left, behind the tiger that held the blue stone tightly in his paw, his face showing no emotion.
Keith and Wolf joined Foxx and Comet. Keith looked at the tiger.
"You tried to capture me and Comet… you weren’t able too… now you try to capture my family too… what makes you think that you will succeed?" he asked.
The tiger grinned.
"The king doesn’t want you all…" he replied softly, looking at the stone in his paw "He wants the younger one." With that he looked directly into Foxx’s eyes. Foxx looked into his light blue eyes, not able to look away, feeling something weird trying to take over him.
"What?" Keith said, surprised.
You’re coming with us… Foxx heard inside his head.
"Who said that?" he asked, looking around.
The king can help you defeat the fox that is standing by your side… you know you want to defeat him… the voice continued.
"How do you know that?" Foxx asked again, falling to his knees and wrapping his arms around him. It was true. He did feel slightly angry that Wolf defeated him, but it was only in the beginning… right?
"Foxx! What’s wrong?" he heard Wolf ask.
If you go to the king… you’ll get the power you need… the voice said softly.
"Shut up!" Foxx shouted, taking his paws to his head "I don’t care if…!"
Yes you do… why are you fooling yourself…?Comet and Keith got on their knees.
"Foxx, what’s wrong?" Keith asked.
"Please… make the voice stop…!" Foxx begged, still looking into the tiger’s eyes, his own eyes filling with tears. He felt so divided… the weird feeling was getting stronger, trying to make him go to the king.
"What voice?" Comet asked.
You don’t want me to stop… you want to come with us… to the king… so you can defeat him…"F-Foxx?" Wolf called cautiously, kneeling in front of him. Foxx stared deep into Wolf’s eyes, his own eyes changing to a darker tone, the brown in them looking almost black and their green almost disappearing. He lifted his left paw a bit, not breaking the eye contact.
"Wind… I summon thee…" he said in a monotone voice as he moved his paw in a fluent motion, from his right side to the left. A strong wind knocked Wolf, Comet and Keith away, and Foxx got up and walked towards the tiger.
That’s it… come with us…
"Foxx… why are you…?" Keith asked. He got no answer as Foxx stopped by the tiger’s side and turned around to face them.
Wolf growled and got up, his sword ready. He started to run towards the tiger.
"What did you do to him?" he asked, swinging his sword at the tiger. The tiger grinned and didn’t move. When Wolf was about to hit him, Foxx got in front of him, stopping Wolf’s sword and looking directly at him. He made a sudden movement and Wolf was thrown back. As soon as Wolf hit the ground, Foxx pointed his sword at his throat, looking at him with a cold expression.
"Why…?" Wolf asked.
Comet and Keith were watching, speechless.
"Come. You don’t want to do that now, do you?" the tiger asked, placing his paw on Foxx’s shoulder. Foxx looked up at him and nodded.
"You’re right." Foxx replied in his monotone voice and turned his back to Wolf, following the tiger.
"Foxx…!" Wolf said, grabbing Foxx’s paw. Foxx stopped and turned his head slightly, looking coldly at Wolf. Wolf released Foxx’s paw and Foxx started walking behind the tiger. Keith slowly approached Wolf and put a paw over his shoulder, looking at Foxx.
"Foxx, why are you doing this?" he asked. Foxx kept walking.
"One day…" he said, following the tiger. The remaining soldiers followed them into the forest as Wolf’s eyes filled with tears.
I even think that Foxx is acting a bit like a son of a
