Absolutely; Though the things I find interesting are rarely conventional I have in the past specifically sought out what I felt would challenge my preconcieved notion of "coolness". It's the same reason I love my crappy b-list video games like magic pengal, and why I don't use space marines in 40k, and why I played a tauren in WoW (don't rage, but if you did just there I'd understand), as I saw them as being absolutely grotesque. Though there is rarely a more rewarding experience than trying something which has been labeled by society as a complete waste and finding it rules (by your personal standards of course).
