There's a quote that stuck out when I was watching Meet The Sniper.
"S'long as there's two people left on this planet, someone is gonna want someone dead"
That got me thinking. Generally, human beings can't stand each other, and are always finding more ways to hate each other. It's really common against minority groups. It's the difference between cultures, and the fact that there's more of them than there are of you somehow legitimises it. People focus on the bad things, the finer details, and don't accomodate the bigger picture probably because they don't want to. People are gonna hate each other and take the mickey out of others because, I think, that it proves to themselves that they're superior, that they're right and everyone else is wrong. When was admitting that you were wrong ever a good feeling?
Furries just get it bad because people refuse to look at it from our point of view, because they don't want to be wrong, or that they don't want to face the fact the media is wrong. And it's not just furries, it happens everywhere with anyone a little different from the norm. Homophobia and racism is still about today.
The only time the human race will ever stop hating each other will be when we're united in hate against aliens, or something. And that makes me a little sad; knowing that we have to hate something else to stop hating something.
I haven't told anyone that I'm a furry. But, I know that at least my best mate wouldn't care in the slightest; I figure he'd say something along the lines of "You're still the same guy I was friends with yesterday, this doesn't change anything."
In a way, I don't think I need to tell anyone without being prompted. I want people to know me as "that cool guy you can depend on" first, and "that furry" after. Being a furry is only a small part of everything that makes me the person I am today.
Maybe if furries were the good guys first, and then the furries second, maybe the general opinion of us might change.
Not to say you guys aren't good people, of course. You guys are pretty cool.
