Now wearing nothing more than his woodland camo pants, his combat boots and his dog tags, Spike trotted through the woods and finally reached a clearing. It was a farm, completed with a large red barn. He panted, "good enough for me." He began to walk through the corn field, his fur still matted with mud and dried blood. He was soaked and until recently had it stopped raining. He passed the cattle and pens of pigs and figured it was a bad idea to "borrow one" despite his hunger. Spike had lost track of time as night was already setting in. He reached the barn and opened a crack in one of the doors before poking his head inside. Spike opened it the rest of the way and stepped inside. As silently as he could, he found one of the open stalls filled with hay. He collapsed, and everything went black.

Spike opened his eyes to the beaming sunlight shining though the crack in the wood. He sat up and looked around before he inspected his wound which wasn't looking too bad as the blood was clotted. There was a creak in the barn door entrance. He immediately got to his feet and pressed himself up to the stall boards. There were footsteps. Spike swallowed and slowly gripped the gun at his waist.
"Come on, Billy!" A young voice called belonging to a little girl not older than 6 or 7. Spike stood frozen in his position. The way he looked, there was no getting out of this one smoothly. Another pair of footsteps joined with hers as they ran into the barn. "Wait up, Lucy!" The voice of an older young boy, maybe 11 or 12, called out in response. They both laughed and played in the hay stacks at the front doors. Spike loosened his grip on the gun and listened as they played. He remained in the shadows, watching their every movement. After a little while, he knew no one else would be joining them. He continued to listen and watch.
"Hey what's that!" The boy called out. Spike's heart skipped a beat. He looked down. The tip of his orange and white tail was sticking out of the stall and in the light. He grimaced. "Great...exposed." he thought to himself. Spike could hear the boy approaching slowly. He began to think about how he would go about doing this. Like the sadistic wild animal that he was? Calm and professional? Scared? Kids liked discovering weird things, right? He knew. He backed up into a corner and heard the kids gasp as they witness the tail move. Just as anticipated, the boy continued forward too engrossed by curiosity. Spike continued to hide in the darkest corner of the stall when the boy appeared near the gate. Spike whimpered and whined from the shadows. "Yes, give them the power of control. Do not scare them." Spike thought to himself. "It's okay...We won't hurt you." Billy said as he stepped forward. Spike backed up even more and continued to whine. "C'mon out, boy." Billy pressed on. Lucy ran up behind him. "Maybe he's hungry." She suggested. She reached into her pocket, removed a large chocolate chip cookie, and held it out to Spike. Like a dog, Spike sniffed it first. He slowly came forward, crouched. His muzzle came out the shadows and gently grabbed the cookie in his large jaws. The children watched on in awe. Spike decided it was time for him to show himself, and he slowly came out of hiding inch by inch. They looked at his blood matted fur which covered his face and chest. He stared at them in a non threatening position. Spike opened his mouth. The kids stared on. "...You kids got any more cookies?" He asked with a smile. They gasped. "COOL!!!"
