What Are Your Views On Cloning?
« on: November 26, 2009, 01:46:28 PM »
Okay so this topic may seem weird but I'm doing a science case study on Cloning, both human and animal, and I need others points of view. So the reason for me making this thread is:

What Do You Think Of Human And Animal Cloning?
and could you please fill this out:

Name: (Real Name (FIRST only))
Religion: (If any)
Are You For, Against or In-between?:
Why?: (why are you For, Against Or On the Boarderline?)

This would help me so much if you were to help, and all I need is a couple of lines or maybe a small paragraph on you cloning opinions, and sorry if this is a touchy subject, I've been told this can annoy/ hurt people, but i have no intentions of doing that, is your 100% against it because its un-natural, please keep your replys friendly as this does have to be published to The science department heads.

Thanks to all those who reply =]

Are You For, Against or In-between?: Between
Why?: It would open up many possibilities, for example somebody is dying, clone them and take the tissue or cells that they need from the clone, and it would save the person. However If we clone a mass amount of people how would we know which one is the real one? We would need bar codes or something. There needs to be an extent of cloning if we ever do get to cloning.

Why?: Because It's Immoral to the clone, let's say that you where a clone? How would you feel about that?
Your parents are actually not your own. It's your original self's. And if we where to ''Harvest'' them? that would be just Cruel since we would Kill innocent people.

Why?:

I think it's dependent on the reasons needed. It has both benefits and possible problems. Complete human cloning seems morally wrong, even if the DNA was altered so it wasn't an exact clone, is this "creation" now a human? Is it living? Has it got the same rights?

Cloning individual parts has its merits. If a person has to lose a body part or vital organ due to injury or disease, cloning a new part would allow this person to continue living as if nothing had happened, something all of us would value if we were in the situation. Although, again ethically, could this be used wrongly?

Animal cloning is a little different, as much as we have pets and care about animals, no-one can disagree that we make use of them. Whether for working or for eating or other raw materials. Cloning an animal could have advantages in regards to the way the animal is developed. If a clone of an animal which carries more meat, produces more milk or is stronger to do more work, it could prove beneficial to society as a whole. Cloning an animal with an immunity to a disease could also be so and how different is this from breeding certain animals together to achieve the same thing? Something done for 100s of years. Saving animals from extinction?

In all, it depends really on its applications. I think cloning could have massive and remarkable benefits if used in a way which feels ethically correct. The question is what do people deem is ethically correct?

And now I should go write my 3000 word essay on something completely different!

Why? - Because I don't see anything morally wrong with cloning humans or animals. But as with anything it could be used for something negitive so it depends on how you were using it.

Why?: I believe human cloning could open so many possibilities for medical science, not in the sense of cloning a whole person... simply individual cells, these cells could then be used for testing vital medications, or for supplying whole new organs... though i think it could have moral issues; cloning techniques could push the boundaries of our medical sciences through huge leaps and bounds if used correctly.

((that alright?))

I'm on the borderline because it depends on to what length of human and animal cloning we are talking about really. For the most part if you are articulating stem cells and putting them to good use saving people from a variety of abnormalities in organs and problems with diseases it seems that it is a good thing and the same for animals too. I do think that we are meant to have their well being at mind because they are just as important as humans whether we are thinking on an emotional or logical level here.

However, I would never want to see this sort of technology to get out of careful hands as exemplified in the fiction novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley where it came to a point where the entire world was controlled by it. That may seem like a severe overreaction, but I think it's always best to see if the good outweighs the bad. As of right now cloning seems to be a good thing, but I don't want to see it get to the point where we are cloning humans just to harvest their organs :/

Reason: It would be a great good for the world of modern Medicine, as you could clone organs from a patient's own cells to replace his or her failing organs, skin and muscle tissue for facial reconstruction and other surgery.

This would also out the need for Xenotransplantation, for those people who don't like the idea of harvesting tissue from animals, or people who don't like the idea of having animal parts in them -.-;

The Military could also benefit from the cloning of additional soldiers, no more Conscription, though I don't think it could/should replace volunteer military service.

Are You For, Against or In-between?: For
Why?: cause there clones!, awesome i wanna annoying me walking around after im dead, might not be able to transfer all your brain patterns and stuff but it would still be cool.

and if you JUST want to clone organs you dont need to use a whole other person! thats just wrong and its possible to JUST clone the organs to, altoght thats probably a bit more difficult. not sure if it was allowed it would actually be the best idea with the amount of people already in the world currently and the rate at thats increasing at. but its still a pretty cool concept. *thinks* gahhh reminds me of a film i cant remember the name of >.>, where there able to clone people and change there gene's and stuff to make them immune to everything and really smart and stuff, and then normal people become all inferior and stuff.

but yeah i still like cloning
dont click my pet!!!!

Why?: I like the idea of it, especially for medical reasons.
But, it seems to immoral and inhumane.
Clones still have feelings and emotions, and it just seems odd to have another you around.

Why?: Cloning, contrary to popular belief, isn't unnatural anymore than a twin is unnatural. I see no moral implications. They are normal, living breathing humans and they deserve the same rights. Biologically, there is no difference, only the methods used. It would quickly become evident that if you cloned a person many times, the result would be very much different. They may look identical, but their brain would evolve differently.
